checking cat. converter...
is there a easy way to tell the condition of the stock cat? i have a low mileage one that i believe is in good condition, but would like some way to verify...

I just did this...
Unbolt it where it connects to the downpipe and shine a light in there. It should look like fine steel mesch and it will probably be a brown rusty color. If it looks kinda solid like hair in a drain or a clogged kitchen sink drain, then its clogging/clogged. The car may also smell a little like fuel and exhaust (mine did) and the exhaust tone will be a little ratty sounding at idle. A clogged cat can also cause decreased boost levels. |
shake it to see if you hear anything
