Checking Air Bypass and Charge Relief valves

I think both my Air Bypass and Charge Relief valves are bad. They only hold about 3 lbs on the large port when there is no vacuum on the small port. But when I put pressure on both the small and large ports, I can pump it up to 14 lbs.

Is this normal or are they hosed? The car runs like it has a boost leak.

Both the CRV and the ABV use vacuum to open, and boost to hold it closed. They are fine.

Oh yeah, check your couplers and hoses for any signs of oil around them. Look only at hoses which hold pressure, for instance you would be concerned with the CRV and ABV hoses connecting to the y-pipe, but not with the hoses connecting to the air box (filter/atmosphere). Oil is a sign of a boost leak.

I guess my concern is that when there is nothing connected to the small port, the big port only holds about 3lbs of boost. I gather from your response as boost increases, this holds the valve shut.

Thanks for your help saving me the $150 for each valve.
