check engine light after greddy pulley

today i installed my new greddy pulley kit and used the smaller belt that does not turn the air pump. after i was done everything looked good except for when i turned on my car my idle was kind of low and the check engine light was on. I disconnected my battery so that the ecu can get reset, then reconnected it but still the check engine light was on. Do you guys think you know what went wrong?

do u still run an air pump ?

Mahjik 06-06-07 10:21 PM

How about you check the codes and see what is lighting up the CEL?

Do what Mahjik said and give us a code or something to go by here.

error code 09...... Water thermosensor..... would you guys think it could be because im running the stock cat?

Can i ask , are you running a standard ECU and also i take it you didnt read to much into removing or disconnecting the air pump because if the belt is no longer turning the air pump anymore then you will no longer have AIR blown into the CAT and exaust ports so the idle will now be a little messed up (you can just wind the idle up a little to compensate but it will still run a little rough).
Right mate the water thermosensor is on the back of the water filler housing, have a look theres the fan switch and the thermosensor,, you probably just upset a dodgy connection have a play about with the plugs and clean them.

ohhh just to quickly add im running stock ECU and ive completely removed the air pump and all solenoids and pipe work relating to the airpump. Car runs fine but idle is a tad rough. Main cat is still fine been driving car 1 year.

The Water Thermosensor is on the firewall side of the waterpump housing. There are two sensors there and the Water Thermosensor will be the top one. Make sure the connector is secured on the sensor, then reset the ECU again.

If the car is throwing that code, it will run like crap.

yes i am running the stock ecu i will be installing the pfc this friday and getting a high flow cat on monday. Today in the morning, when i turned on my car it runed on for about 2 seconds then turned off for about five times until i kept the rpms up to like about 4k for like 10 seconds. Is that because of the water thermo sensor. I saw a plug ontop of the air pump, it lookes secured and good. I disconnected it and reconnected it and still same problem. Then i reset the ecu again and the check engine light is still on.

And also is it safe to run a high flow cat with out the air pump or is the high flow cat going to get messed up?

does someone have a picture of how the sensor looks. I went to my car and saw that it has a cable with a plug secured on top of the air pump. Is that the sensor?

On the firewall side of the waterpump housing, not the airpump.

You NEED to download the Mazda field service manual and read up on section "F".
It will be a very worthwhile education for you.

the napa one will work.
