As far as i know JDM cars do not come with a check engine light. I think they still store codes but there is no indicator lamp. I am not 100% on this but im pretty darn sure that jdm cars dont have cel.

You should have the Check Engine Light (CEL) when you turn the key to ACC (but not started):

However, as mentioned above not all FD's were shipped with the dash light. The codes are still stored, but require a different means to read them:

can you disable the light through apexi pfc? i have a 95 and with key on engine off the light does not come on. also i tried to swap the bulbs and still nothing.

it is something that i want to get taken care of asap because if there is a fault i want to know asap.

Bumping this tread again.

Having a issue with my car, boost is low. First thing i need to do is check faults, but without having a "CEL" light on my 95 cluster, i dont even know if there is any faults. Key on engine off and no "Check Engine" comes on in the dash. Does this have anything to do with having a apexi power fc or is there something else possibly wrong? Do not feel like installed a LED by the diag box. Also can i just hook up a obd1 scanner and read faults with that?
