cheapest way to relocate the battery on a 3rd gen rx7
 

Hi, i would like to know a cheap way to relocate the battery of my rx7 into the rear bins thanks.!!!!

I'm now in the process of picking the right battery......I got the 15 ft 1 gauge wire kit from Summit for $40 . I go from the stater over the axcles and up the passenger bin.
let me know if you find a good battery ( size, power and price)

optima red tops... then you dont have to get a special case for it since its self contained. 800cca (i think) and you can pick one up for like $130

I hear that optima bat is kindda heavy compare to other battery ...is this true??

maybe you can use this small battery.. run some cable to the bin..

I use an SBS sealed battery, its the perfect size and weight. Maybe later I'll post some links and pictures.

I cringe to say this but.... I bought a battery for a Honduh!! It's the perfect size, puts out like 650CCA(which is plenty) and they are cheap. Picked one up from autozone for $50 w/ 6 year warranty. The summit cable set for $40 is perfect, that what I used. So you can do the whole thing for under $100 my way.

how do you feed the battery cables into the cabin? do you route them through the firewall hole or do you drill a new hole?

If you look on the driver's side near the firewall(under the cruise control if it's a touring) you will see a hole that goes through the fender. If you pull back the plastic wheel well you will see a nice unused rubber gromet on the firewall. On the inside of the car that gromet ends up just behind and below the fuse box. That's the easiest way to run the wire w/o any cutting or hacking

I relocated my battery to the passenger side bin using a optima made battery but is smaller then the redtop with 900CCA at 32 F. I ran 4gauge wire through the driver side firewall, under the scuff plate, under the rear speaker panel and to the passenger side bin. The battery is small, but I had to shave off the bottom of the battery because it's just extra plastic. I cut the bottom half of the bin and the battery fits PERFECTLY.

did you guys have to use the stock battery tray underneath the battery... i have a wierd problem of my car draining the battery, I really havent worked on figureing out if soemthign was staying on and draining it.... But i was curious... if the car is ground and the battery is sitting on it, will the battery drain? becuase i have it just sitting ON the sound deadening material under neath the bins... the way i cut the bin bottm, the battery doesnt move, but its slowly draining... help me out please

I didnt like the idea of cutting my interior bin up so I got one of those 51R SS battery trays and modified it to fit behind the black divider....

I just used 4G stereo cable that I had laying around....

Ninjak: My battery is also sitting on the sound deadener at the bottom of the bin and it's not draining. Double check your connection, maybe it's your battery??

I used the Miata size battery. Fit in the bin with no mods.

How are all of you guys holding down the battery? Is there some type of harness you by to bolt it down or what??? I hope it's not just sitting in the rear bin, that wouldn't be good if in a race or an accident.
