Cheap strut tower bars ($14.99!!!) on ebay

Does anyone have any suggestions on whether or not I should get this?? Every other strut tower bar I've seen is way more expensive than this? Any input would be appreciated

anything is better than no strut bar at all.

It's strong enough even though it is hollow all through the center. It's very similar to the bonez or even the gab bars which are more $$$

For $15, you can lose the equivalent of half a tank of gas. I think I'm going to give it a shot myself.

paw140 08-25-02 02:08 PM

It actually looks pretty nice in the pic, but I'm sure its a cheap piece of crap. I mean, come on... $15?

oakridgerx7 08-25-02 02:19 PM

Ive got one on my car! It looks just as good as all of the more expensive ones. I suppose it is just as functional as the rest also.

MrZUMZUM 08-25-02 06:44 PM

I just saw those ads as well. Also saw directcarparts and speedgogo had em as well and they all looked about the same.

I'm definitely gonna get one as well.

Mine pitches a bit as well. See avatar.

They are pretty good. I'd say about as good as any stru bar you're going to get which I know the "don't put that cheap crap on your car" guys aren't going to want to hear. I had one but never see them that cheap before.

JUSTgotMINE 08-25-02 07:04 PM

I took the chance too...got mine last week. I must say it's very solid. Go for it.

santology 08-25-02 07:10 PM

Thanks a lot everyone. I think I'm going to go ahead and give it a try. When I get it in I'll come back and let everyone know if it's worth it

JONSKI 08-25-02 10:18 PM

Cool.

[edit]
I can't wait to put "$14.99 strut bar" in my mods list. GOOOOOOO GHETTO!

BlackR1 08-25-02 10:28 PM

form follows function. If it works, and its inexpensive...then sweet!

Don't forget...

Shipping Rate:
$12.95 (Domestic)

I bought the Bomz version two weeks ago on ebay from directcarparts. $22 shipped. The construction is solid; the bar itself probably weighs 10 lbs. It significantly reduced the body shudder I was experiencing going over bridge joints at highway speed. I was afraid it was going to be a POS, but it seems to be holding up well. No rubbing on either the hood or IC piping.

Take a good look at the joints on those things (there are closer pictures available elsewhere of the same generic bars), I highly doubt they are going to add any significant stiffness to an FD. Of course there are many people divided on the issue of shock tower bar vs. no shock tower bar anyway (many people say they can't tell the difference, many say they can).

I put my $9.99 STB (Bomz from Directcarparts) on a few weeks ago. It looked good, was of solid construction, I figured for ten buck you can't go wrong. It did significantly reduce the road pull on the s**tty roads around my home.

EDIT: Also helps decrease transition response time, according to my rear-end-o-meter.

jpandes 08-26-02 12:26 PM

I bought a similar strut tower bar off ebay last year for 55 bucks! that was when there weren't any going for less. The bar I have looks exactly like the ones on Ebay for $12.99+

The bar is made well and works great. I'd say get one. You can't lose.

sszablya 08-26-02 01:05 PM

Imagine if everything was this inexpensive for the RX7... i.e. $12.99 Bomz FSTB compared to $155 for the Cusco FSTB...
Like buying the HKS T04R single turbo kit for $353.66.. We'd all have some screamin' fast cars!!

Hey, I can dream.. :)

Benjamin 08-26-02 03:49 PM

Which would be better: The BOMZ for $18 or the no-name $15 one? Anybody? -BN

Benjamin 08-26-02 09:32 PM

anybody have an opinion on this? -BN

They all the same. I have to drill the hole(where the join between the bar and the "ring") a little bigger so I can lift it up a little higher cause it kindda touch my Y-pipe. I have the ifini Y-pipe though.
Bottom line is it probably not a perfect "adjustable" fit but it looks OK. Can't really tell any difference thoght.

loi 08-27-02 02:24 AM

do they made a rear one also? or just the front?

JONSKI 08-27-02 10:26 AM

You already have one in the rear.

SanJoRX7 08-28-02 12:55 AM

The stock rear bar is pretty heavy and is insufficient for use as a harness bar. If you're going to replace it, and you plan to put 4 or 5 pt harnesses in, make sure to get a really solid one, because otherwise it's your ass that you're losing when it buckles.

Nathan Kwok 08-28-02 02:03 AM

Wow I can't believe this. I just bid for one. I had to bid up to $18.50 to get it but a grand total of ~$30 after shipping and tax, what do you have to lose? I'll report back.

overkill 08-28-02 11:54 PM

you out bid me by $.50!! Tell me how you like it, I'm considering bidding on another one.....
