Changing twins, What do I need to Replace?
 

Getting ready to install a pair of rebuilt twins. From those who have had their twins on and off, what do I need to replace? Can I reuse the oil lines and gaskets?

oil injector lines, bolts, gaskets.....try to look at it this way....if you can't get to it easily, replace it. That way it will be one less thing to worry about.

I don't see what oil injector lines have to do with replacing turbos.

Replace:
1. Oil return lines gaskets
2. Inlet/outlet gaskets (x4)
3. Turbo to exhaust manifold gaskets.
4. Coolant lines to turbo (2 small hoses)
5. Studs.

This is all pretty expensive stuff. I myself reused #3, they looked OK.

just pray your studs don't break like mine did...

I broke first a DP stud.. which meant I had to take the turbos off to fix it

and that broke a Turbo stud..

which meant I had to take the manifold off to fix it

and then I broke a Main stud...

which maent i had to overhaul the whole motor with a new housing..

it wasn't a good week for me...

You run the risk of oil leaks if you don't replace the oil and coolant line crush washers. (However I've reused them without leakage, shhh!)

You should have some extra studs and nuts on hand. If the nuts fuse to the studs like mine, you should also get some M10 washers to put under them when you reuse them. I also believe strongly in having an M10x1.5mm tap to chase the threads of everything. The metal gaskets are nice to replace but can be reused if you're putting the same turbos back together. I would replace the gaskets if they'll be asked to seal different surfaces than before.

Little things are easy to forget. Have some good high temp anti-seize on-hand.

You can re-anneal the crush washers rather than buying new ones. It makes them soft again, so they will create a perfect seal.
