Changing the Fuel Pump.. How?
 

I finally got my FD :bigthumb: and the one second day I owned it so proudly, the fuel pump shit the bed, and now I have to drive it like a grandma to keep the engine from starving itself of fuel. I've been looking into the Denso pump, and I was reading that I do not have to drop the tank to replace it... so uhm where do I start?

Open your trunk. It is under the cover, by the spare tire. Open the cover, that hold with 4 screws. Then you can go from there.

is this the Denso (Supra) pump?

Is the Bosch 044 pump equal as easy to put in?

yes it is the supra pump. the one I found is actually built by Python, it's a modifeid Denso which puts out 10% more flow

not sure about the bosch tho, but unless it doesn't need to be modified to fit, then it should be as easy

The Denso pump is the Supra TT pump. It's a direct replacement of the stock fuel pump. I believe the Bosch 044 is an inline fuel pump and would take quite a bit of work to get it to go into the tank if that's what you're wanting to do with it.

well changing the fuel pump didn't solve my problem, on top of that it has the same pump i bought already in it. moving on, wheres the filter?

The filter is above the diff. I'd check the relay too though.

The filter is on top of the differential. Very fun to get to and takes awhile to change.

Def check your fuel pump relay (speed) too. That was my problem.

relay is just for turning the pump on right? how would I check it?

The relay actually changes voltages supplied to the fuel pump. There is a high and a low current. The relay is located in a black box by the front of the engine bay. It is right next to the intake (if you have a stock intake it is under it.)

Have you downloaded the FSM yet? The link is in the "Tech Manuals" sticky thread. You'll need it.

The "Circuit Relay" near the battery turns the fuel pump on. The "Fuel Pump Relay" near the nose switches the pump between high and low power.

Just FYI...the stock fuel pump is a Denso pump but is NOT the Denso Supra TT pump. They look identical and the only way you can tell them apart is by part number, but the Supra TT has a flow rate of 280lph as compared to the Walbro's 255lph and I believe the stock pump is around 220lph. For what its worth.

so i changed the fuel pump, and now gas leaks from around the big rubber seal and all over my tank. all of the screws are tight, but I do recall the seal did not seam to seat right (wrinkled when those 2 nubs were put in the holes to hold it on). i'm assuming i need a new seal... is that a normal issue? or do i just have shitty ass luck
