Changed O2 Sensor, need to reset ECU???
Hey guys...
I'm having issues passing my emissions test in Phoenix, so I took it in to get diagnosed and they tell me the O2 sensor is bad... ok, that happens, so I go out and but the Bosch universal for $20 instead of paying them the $197 and labor to do it, and I buy plugs cause he says they need replacing. I change out the O2 sensor and plugs on Sunday afternoon, take the care for a drive and it runs great! Better than before? If it does, I can't tell. I ran great when I got it and it runs great now. So, the question is, do I need to reset the ECU for it to take the new O2 sensor or not? If so, how do I do it? Thanks for all the help!!! |
No, you don't.
And the procedure for reseting the ecu has been posted eleventy billion times. |
I figured about the ECU, but I thought if I did, someone could post it here really quickly.
Thanks for the response. I think I'll take the car back to emissions testing early next week and see if it passes. |
Lots of info has been posted on emissions and you will just learn more by using 'search'. Suggested that you have new plugs and make sure the cats are hot. I had no problems in Oregon with my stock 29k FD.
BTW, Reset the ECU by disconecting the neg battery terminal and hold the brake for 30 seconds.... |
Thanks. I've been searching since I posted, just using the wrong key words. Funny how that works.
Thanks for the ECU procedure!!! |
by the way, to get the OEM O2 sensor without taking it in the shorts...goto www.oxygensensors.com
Around $60-70 gets you the OEM sensor with factory plug-total plug-n-play. No need to splice a universal sensor again! |
Thanks for that website. There was no way I was paying $197 for an OEM and then paying the tech 2 hours labor to change it out.
