changed my synchros. trans still doesn't seem right.
 

The trans in my FD had a crunch sound when going into second gear. Not a flat out grind, just a "crunch" every now and then, and sometimes faintly while going into third. I figured, like anyone would, that it must be the synchros.

I replaced them, along with all the bearings, checked for proper clearances, put it together, and it still does the same thing like I never did any work to it.

What the hell?

How did the engagement teeth look on the gears and sliders?

Clean gear engagement depends on the engagement teeth of the gear, the synchro, and the engagement teeth on the slider. As you can see, the synchro only solves 1/3 of the problem. My tranny had somewhat rounded engagement teeth and changing synchros didn't help the shifting much. So I'm not surprised at your result.

If you want I can dig up some pictures of gears that show good/ok/bad engagement teeth.

please do, what i was looking at seemed ok to me.

also, if i am quick with the shifter, there are no problems. Or if i bump the synchro a bit before engaging it seems to be ok.

I'm gonna toss this out there - I solved a lot of my shiftability probs by changing tranny oil. Seriously.

Seems that a lot of the synthetic oils out there are too slippery - I was using Lucas oil. After adding the Lucas oil, my shifting problems started small and got worse over the course of driving a week or so.

I changed to Redline MT-90 and my shiftability problems gradually got better over a few days.

I was thinking about grabbing some Neo tommorow, just to make sure.
I put in some regular ass 75w-90 gear oil that was at CarQuest just to get it rollin.

Ew.

Try a GL4 like MT-90 or Amsoil MTG.

I run Neo synthetics for the transmission and rear end. Have not run the 7 with them yet, but every other vehicle I have had (except for the motorcycle) has given me excellent results with neo.

I put in what my local speed shop had. Some Neo rhd. Still the same. That sucks. I suppose ill just run it like it is, don't feel like tearing it apart.

yeah, sounds like something is rounded off in there.
