Change hub or whole rear axle

Broke a stud on my passenger rear axle. So i bought a used one. Is it better if i just change the whole rear axle with hub so i don't have to worry bout the wheel bearings? Or better to just swap the hubs out?

If i pull the axle out the differential, will differential fluid come out? Will i have to fill it up?

Trying to figure out the best way to going about this stupid mess. Just heard changing the wheel bearings is costly and pita.

if your car is on a level surface gear lube shouldnt come out. an axle would be expensive, but if you try to get the hub off you might break the wheel bearing like i did. either way it would probably be cheaper to buy a single stud, usea wheel puller to take off the hub and even if you have to buy a wheel bearing you still will have more money then if you bought the whole assembly.

I've already bought the whole assembly 65. So i can just pull it out the differential and it won't leak? Thanks

The wheel bearings are in the hub. Its a sealed bearing and had nothing to do with the axle. However, it is difficult to remove the hub without popping the axle out of the diff. If the car is level no fluid should leak out of the diff. Be careful not to damage the end of the axle when removing it from the hub. Might as well change the axle seal too.

DamonB had a step by step on replacing a broken stud. Search for his thread in the Suspension section or here.
