Chance to get a 3rd gen chassie, no motor
 

Whats the cheapest way to get a 3rd gen running with no motor. I know 3rd gen motors are for sale on ebay for 2500.00 and up. I have a 2nd gen t2 motor in the shop I could use but not sure of the $$ to get it to working in the 3rd gen. Let me know what you guys think.

in the FD world, the word CHEAP does not exsist...unless magic, as stated by jic, and extreme luck is in play. true you can get a motor for $2500+ but under what conditions? i've heard clips & engines can last from 1 week to a year. big gamble at that, and again, EXTREME LUCK.

Actially Jaysin, I'd say that more like the term "cheap" is relative in the FD world...you COULD get a cheap motor for $1500, and that's more than most piston motors, but it's cheap for an FD.

true, but for me, i wouldn't mind paying for something expensive and works rather than going ghetto and having problems.
i've found an FD engine, for $1500. probably blown & bad turbos. rebuild & new turbos = a lot of money but worth the while :bigok:

edit: not going cheap is my personal preference....no "cheap" in my FD world :p:

I am glad to hear your side of the story guys. I have a 1st gen and a 2nd gen t2. The 1st gen is pretty reliable. The 2nd gen, I just rebult the engine and it is running good now. A 3rd gen mite be a little more than I can handle. Thanks guys.

That is how I see things as well... Sometimes more doesn't mean better, but if you know what you're getting is proven to make a difference then why not spend the money??

but either way, like every is saying cheap is a possible way but wouldnt be the recommended route. its like buying a 500 dollar motor and having it pop the next day, theres really no point

You aren't buying a good condition roller for only $2500....not even close. And a T2 motor wouldn't work without a lot of work....better off with the 13B-REW or going LS-1.

There are a couple places I have found in Canada that sell motors for the same price Canadien as US $ so you could save a little by buying a used motor from Canada... but I have never had anyone recommend buyin a J-spec motor cuz everyone claims it's risky and there hasn't been much success.... Just what I have heard! So I'd say buy a rebuilt motor from a reputable company. Just my opinion. Search around and get pricing and I'm sure you'll be able to find a reasonable price around $2500 to $3000 for a stock rebuild....

i tried explaining this to someone earlier today. i'm the same way with quality over cost.
