CCRRRAAAAPPPP!!! Broke the nipple on the solenoid rack!!!Is it safe to drive??

I was working on the car, checking the check valves. I was tugging on the small green and yellow check valve that goes from the intake manifold to the the solenoid rack down below and the plastic nipple off the solenoid rack broke off!! I don't know what to do now since its my only car and I have to go to work. Will it be fine if I drive really lightly until around Tuesday when I take it to my mechanic? What does this check valve/hose actually do?!

Well, went to test drive it....seemed fine, although I couldn't really tell because I didn't dare push it. I didn't go pass 4K RPM.

Just go to any automotive place and get a one way check valve. It should do the trick.

REDLINE 11-10-01 08:17 PM

THe check valve itself is okay, but the other end is not. There is a plastic nipple on the solenoid rack right underneath the pressure tank. Hard to get to. I have to remove the rack to get to it. Luckily I'm taking it to get a hose job sometime this coming week. Just wanted to know what that hose specifcally did.

Its ok, don't worry.. I broke that one too. If it's the solenoid at the farthest left of the rack (you standing on the drivers side) and under the pressure tank...that is the double throttle control solenoid. Doesn't do too much and a lot of guys eliminate it.

Try drilling a hole the same size as the solenoid nipple where the break happened, and then get a small metal pipe that is the same size and affix it inside the newly drilled hole... reattach the hose and voila! good as new

I broke the same solenoid nipple when I was replacing the vacuum lines. I went ahead and got a new one from the dealer. I believe it cost $54.00. The dealer also wanted $30 and more for check valves, so I went with the generic ones at the auto parts store for $3, and they work fine. Good luck with the repair if you decide to do it. Might as well replace the vacuum lines if you go so far as to take the solenoid rack out to replace the solenoid.

Yeah, I'm gonna get my mechanic to do that drilling and metal tube insert he did to one of my control solenoids beforel. I mean, might as well, since the solenoid rack will be out of there for a hose job and all. Thanks for the replies guys.

Are you sure its the double throttle one? Basically, like you said, its the farthest left on the rack (facing motor on driver's side fender). Its near the bottom of the rack....not a metal nipple, but its like a plastic "T-Fitting". THere are two hoses coming of this solenoid or mechanical black box thingy. One of the hoses points up and goes somewhere else into the rack. The one that broke off is facing you and connects to the tiny Green/Yellow check valve that connects into the front of the intake manifold. This check valve/hose can be seen when you pop the hood open (right behind the alternator). Thanks again.

BTW, are you part of socal7s? Where you at the BBQ rebuild session or anything?

c'mon guys....someone should know which one the doouble trhrottle solenoid is. I know alot of you eliminated it....:(

Take a look at this diagram and identify the valve that way. http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobi...ages/hoses.gif
There are 2 solenoids on the far left of the rack (from the driver side fender facing the engine) one on top and one on the bottom. The bottom (G) is the Double Throttle, and top (H) is the Charge Relief. The Double throttle solenoid is the only one (out of those 2) with a check valve directly attached to it so that's probably the one.

wow. Jr. thanks for the diagram. Yep, I guess its the double throttle thingy (what does it do anyways?) and I just realized, probably the reason I'm not holding pressure on my second turbo is that I'm missing a check valve that goes from the pressure tank...

A full write up on the Double Throttle is here:

Redline> I was at the BBQ for a little while with DomFD3S, but had to cut out before they finished rebuilding the engine. First SoCal7 event that I've been to...didn't get to meet everyone since I was running back and forth that day. I had the 7 with the huge battle scar on the drivers side

Thanks again JR. Black R1, don't know whether I saw yours or not, but whose was the black one closest to the BBQ? It had dark tint and was very, very shiny!:D Me like shiny cars.
