Cat breaking up

Has anyone ever had a problem with the main cat burning up and causing your car to run crappy. It has rough idle, and has this wierd smell out of the exhaust, its black smoke, and smells like fuel in a way. The car runs shitty all the way through power band. It seems like the car is missing, but it runs rich, not to rich than normal. If anyone could give some insight that would be great.

Get rid of it. Get a downpipe, midpipe, and cat-back exhaust like RB or M2 duals.

That doesn't sound like a cat problem - sounds like something else. A car with a clogged cat will likely drive pretty normally, but have serious power issues. I'd suspect something else - maybe worn plugs, etc.

map sensor, or o2 sensor got knocked off. Believe me a bad main cat shouldn't be hard to miss, usually it will glow red. But it wouldn't hurt to buy a high-flow.

I don't think a midpipe is for everyone. A high-flow cat is the safer recommendation. Midpipes aren't 100% bolt-in and may require additional boost control.
