Cat Back Straight Pipe

Anyone have any opinions on a custom fabricated straight pipe from the cat back? I heard it isn't much lowder than stock as long as you keep the main cat. It should be much cheaper and more powerful than any aftermarket cat back and cost $hundreds less.

Will I loose low end torque at all. I primarily autocross, so this would be a freebie mod to stay in SS if I wanted to.

Any objections/opinions?

Someone I work with did that on the fd he used to own. He got someone to make the pipe, and even make a nice tip on the end. He loved it and said it wasn't too loud. I never saw the car. Just passing on what he told me.

Thanks ExpensiveHobby22. Anyone else have any experience? I am just curious why more people don't do straight pipe if it could be more power for a lot less money.

When i went to the solo 11 nationals in Topeka three years ago when the FD was hot in SS everyone with an FD was running a straight pipe for the weight savings. sounds fine and not loud at all. but remember they have to keep stock precat and main cat to stay legal.

I will probably be running ASP this year anyways, so I can put on a downpipe.

So no one has a good reason why everyone spends $500+ on a catback when a straight pipe is possibly the best solution?

Straight cat back

I have had a straight pipe on my FD for as long as I have owned it. The preveous owner was an autocrosser and had it fabricated at Midas for about 125 bucks. He didn't get mandrel bent tubes but it still flows very well. Sound is perfect. Loud enough to hear but never drones. It is the perfect way to go. You will not loose any low end.

Also just installed a DP with this cat back. Initial impression is it is still not to loud but I have only driven around town with this set up.

Save your $$, go straight pipe.
