Carpet GB - Anyone interested?

I am currently in contact with a reputated carpet vendor who has dealt with the RX7 forum before. However due to some rules the forum have here, he is not allowed to advertise.

But if we can gather some interest here, we can get some pretty nice quality close to OEM style carpet for a heck of a deal. PM me for more information and hopefully we can get more people for a better deal/package pricing.

-AzEKnightz

TFEnt 07-06-09 09:04 PM

That correct, AzEKnightz contacted us today in regards to the possibility of a GB. if there is any interest then I will contact and pay for a Molded carpet GB. Since we made the mold and started selling it a few years ago we have sold more then 1000 molded carpet kits to RX-7 club members. If you have any question about the product please do not hesitate to ask and we will answer them.

Thank you
Tom

NV02 07-06-09 10:13 PM

I'm interested. OEM colors?

purerx7 07-06-09 10:16 PM

Price?Quality? How thick/plush is the carpet? I am VERY interested, also need a time frame / dead line.

TFEnt 07-06-09 10:19 PM

We are willing to run 2008 GB pricing of $479 delivered in Cont USA for the molded carpet kit with the rear mat. Either with the factory BOSE system or without. Retail on the molded kit alone is $699. Trunk mat is retail of $189.

For images of a full installation follow this link. http://s84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...%20Gen%20RX-7/

What factory colors are you interested in?? Most of the tan colors have been changed to the black but we have a tan that is close to the original factory color.

Well it appears we have the interest in just a few hours. Lets say the GB will be from now until the fist of Aug 2009. I will contact the admin to get the GB officially started.

In the mean time people can e-mail or PM their order info to us.

This is not the first GB we have run the 1st and 2nd threads for this carpet we made especially for the RX-7 club has sold more than 1000 kits. we had threads that were 250+ and lasted for years. The new admin has hidden them until our GB is paid for every time we run one. Hence the reason you see i have less then 10 posts.

The material we use is a very modern version of the factory carpet but is about 3 times as dense and much more plush. It was made with much higher quality materials that make it last about 4 times longer then the factory. In addition we use a very thick rubberback to make the carpet stronger, more heat resistant, and acts as a sound deadener when installed.

junkie81 07-06-09 10:33 PM

i'm in

TFEnt 07-06-09 10:37 PM

GB has been paid for all we have to do is wait for the admin to "refresh" my account privileges tomorrow and this is GB will be a new thread in the GB section. Contact and payment information will be posted there first thing as soon as that has been completed. Anyone interested again can PM us and we will contact you with purchasing instructions.

Thank you all for your continuing support of our product and services.

Holy cow that is a good deal!

I have the black 601 (I believe, whichever is closest to factory) and it is fantastic quality. plus, if enything doesn't seem right, I will vouch for TFEnt. He is a great vendor to work with.

Wow, I did not know the interest pick up so quickly!!! I just messaged him today and posted up this, and in couple of hours, people rushed in.

Tom had great communications through email and responded on all my questions so far.

And I already paid my fee for my carpet =D

I bought one of your front and rear carpet kits about a year ago in black, and will definitely vouch for the great quality! Looked 100x better than the tan carpet I pulled out, and was really simple to install and trim up. Definitely a good deal for something that will make a big impact on the quality of your interior.

damn, do want >_<

spanks13 07-08-09 01:38 AM

I'm very interested...and had just given up on looking for used carpet because I didn't want to take the dash out.

Now there's new carpet for less than used! CANNOT RESIST!

Can the carpet be removed and installed without taking the dash out? It seems like you did it without removing the dash...did you cut the old carpet out?

Yes, that is why I decided to contact TOM for a carpet deal for the members.

No, the carpet cannot be removed without removing the dash out.

Actually in the 2 prototype cars we did here locally we DID NOT remove the dash to install the new carpet. Please look at the installation photos in the link a few post back.

My only question is the same as before - the rear trunk mat - it appears to be slightly bigger than the overal opening - making it push up on the sides - is that the case?
I really want a new rear carpet,(I already have new red carpet for the front), but am not thrilled about it pushing up on the sides. Was there a reason it was made bigger?

Bob:

Are you referring to the pictures in the link??

If that is the case this was the 2nd carpet made and installed. The trunk mat was fitted and re sized about 6 times after that and is now patterned for an as near perfect fit as possible. There are variations from vehicle to vehicle but we have it pretty nailed down now 3 years later.

From the 1000+ kits sold there must be a past client that can post a recent picture of their trunk mat. If so please post one.

Bob H 07-08-09 06:57 PM

Yes, pics in the link and other people who bought earlier ones.
Perfect, I'm in for a red trunk mat.

So in a nutshell, cut and tear out the existing carpet as best we can, removing insulation, cut and patch together pieces of insulation, cut your carpet up the middle, and install that carpet?

The insulation is provided?
Glue insulation down?
Any further need to trim the carpet other than slitting up the middle?
Driver and Passenger foot mats provided?

The insulation is not provided. It can be found at nearly any upholstery shop or fabric store. It is very inexpensive. It would cost more to ship then pick up locally. That is IF it is needed. The carpet we installed locally had a very broken down foam padding. This is the main reason to get rid of it. once it breaks down in the RX-7 the carpet bears the brunt of the weight of your feet getting in and out and you can see the results. A hole in the carpet. You should get the 28 or 32 ounce Jute. Gluing the jute down is not necessary. Gluing the jute to itself is however recommended when building up areas like under the seat between the frame rails.

In regards to the installation. Yes cutting it into smaller pieces and installing one section at a time is the preferred method. This because the rubber backing is so thick it makes the carpet very ridged and difficult to work with. Another tip on installing the carpet is letting the rubber side be exposed to the sun for a few hours and that will soften it up and make it easier to install. The carpet will fight you a bit but once it is installed that rigidity comes into play making the carpet more wear resistant and last much, much longer then the flimsy factory carpet. So a little extra effort on the front side makes it last many years longer on the back side.

When trimming the carpet for the door sills, less is better. You can always cut a little more more then one time to get it right but cut too much and OUCH. You can't put it back. When cutting the holes for the seat bolts or other areas, simply cut an X in the middle where the bolt needs to go through. This allows the carpet to engulf the bolt after it has protruded. Makes for a cleaner installation.

After the purchase as our past clients can attest to, we are available to assist you if need be and are just a phone call away. Most times 24/7.

In conclusion, it takes a professional approx 3-4 hours to install for a small fee. It will take most garage mechanics 6-8 hours. We recommend you have a professional install your new carpet for the very best possible fit and finish. However if you wish to tackle the installation then please call us for advice, have a friend assist you, and have plenty of razors available.

Only a driverside heel pad is available upon request.

Ordered my carpet this morning and ripped the old stuff out all afternoon. This is how the car is now. It took about 4 hours start to finish, but quite a bit of time was taken to plan, and I took a lot of care not ruin the old stuff.

I cut it on the passenger side from behind the AC unit to in front of the center console as far up on the trans tunnel as possible. I tried to work the carpet out from behind the dash, but finally gave up and cut the driver's side way up too. The carpet that is left isn't really even visible anymore, and the new carpet will cover easily.

If possible should we reuse the foam that was on the stock carpet? It is stuck on really well..I don't think it would be possible to get it off in tact. Should we just build up some jute where the foam was instead?

Would the use of a heat gun be ok to get the carpet down where it belongs? I would be careful not to get it too hot, but it would definitely get the rubber more pliable.

If the foam is in good condition then its ok to use. Just use a razor and shave it off the old carpet as close to the rubber backing as possible. If it ends up crumbling in your hands just chuck it and use the jute.

You can use the heat gun but only on the back of the carpet. Use it sparingly, not much heat is needed since the carpet is molded already to the form of the interior.

count me in on that then!

Zoolander 07-09-09 11:29 AM

I only need the trunk mat (non-Bose) so if anyone only needs the front carpet then I'd love to go in on a purchase of a full kit. The difference is $50 from full kit to front only kit ($479 full kit / $429 kit without rear mat). Rear mats a la carte delivered is $149. Purchaser of full kit will have to do the shipping to me.

Please backchannel me if anyone is willing to do this and we can work out a price.

Thanks.

Just FYI. We have started the GB in the Group Buy Area and it is good until August 1, 2009.

Any interest on another GB guys?

Monkman33 08-09-10 12:43 AM

I can vouch for this guy. The carpet I got is exactly as he described and the backing is very nice. Shipping was prompt as promised and when ACC did the wrong border around my floor mats, he had ups pick up the old ones and deliver the right product asap. Great businessman to work with. If anyone is interested in getting new carpet for their FD, this is the way to go. :-)

Evopanda 08-09-10 02:27 AM

I am interested in a GB add me. I disilike the tan carpet.

MattGold 08-09-10 08:14 AM

I just bought new OEM carpet days ago. Paid a bit more too.

Wish I would have seen this sooner.
