car wont start need advice

ok heres the situation, call me stupid if you want to but im hoping someone else has experienced this and has some ideas:
i was holding my foot on the brake and gas at the same time to about 4k rmps and dumped the clutch trying to do a burnout. the suspension is real stiff so the car hop'd in the back a few times and then just shut off. no crazy noices no nuthin. couldnt start it back up. im thinkin i just knocked something loose. i try talkin sweet to her but it hasnt worked yet. any ideas anyone?

I would check the fuel pump and make sure the pump didn't brake loose or anything

Madmax670 03-28-05 10:29 PM

why would be on the brake if you were trying to burn out?

Xeros 03-29-05 12:05 AM

Yeah why woudl you be on the brake? Were you tryin to do a standing burn? I think that has to be one of the dumbest things to do to a car....Well lets analyize this shall we?What kind of sound is it making when you try and start it? I think doing somehting like that can be real damging to the engine when I think about it?If your holding the rear wheels in brake position and you flour it that means you the rear wheels are locked and you can not allow the drive shaft rear dif and axels to move meanning you can not allow the engine internals them selves move right? Now I have never done something liek this becasue i have alway sfeared somehting like that happenning soo...no odd noises or naything either ey?I'm with onequikson on this check the fuel pump, better yet tell us what happens when you try and start it.... You could have possibly snapped or bent a fuel line when you hopped....or better yet knwocked some part of the fuel system loose....any smell of gas? I'm not going to assume the worst but the engine turns over when you try and start it right?

haha...I used to think the same thing. It would hurt the brakes, etc. BTW Why did you think it would hurt the engine? But no, it's not really that bad for the car, not bad for anything except the brakes (not bad enough that it's dangerous or anything). How else do you suggest heating the tires up for racing? You have to do a stationary burn out. Anyways, this is the way all drag racers who don't have line locks do it. I did it all the time last summer.

but wouldnt you drop the clutch first then brake right after really hard? I mean I see that as at least a safer way of doing a stationary burn.

WHIPSrx7 03-29-05 01:15 AM

oh, yes, true true i apologize, you are right

i wouldn't be holding the brake until after the tires are spinning, that would be really hard on the drivetrain. i didn't realize that's what you were talking about

thats exactly what I ment, that kind of force on the drivetrain wouldn't it do some kind of damage to the engine? If you logically think about it something internally could indeed brake you know? Is it possible that he just stopped the damn engine all together like he stalled it but becasue he was flouring it fuel injectors still spit a shit load of fuel into the engine it self causing it flood excessively?

WHIPSrx7 03-29-05 02:12 AM

hm...that's a great question, i'm not sure if that would be enough to do that, but it might like you said because he was gassing it pretty good when he dropped the clutch (i'm guessing)

jeremyb 03-29-05 03:30 AM

Does the engine make any sound at all when attempting to start up?

marines38 03-29-05 11:09 AM

the car doesnt make any noise at all when trying to start. the power does work though, lights come on and all that.

Xeros 03-29-05 11:28 AM

Broken clutch? Does the clutch feel weird when you press down all the way? Right now my cluch is broken and it wont start the car so that is my first guess.

DaveW 03-29-05 11:57 AM

No noise at all when you try to start? Do you mean it is not even cranking?

Sounds like you broke loose some electrical connection that powers both the ignition and the starting circuit when the suspension jumped.

ok heres an update. good news and bad news. we got the car started, it ended up being the neutral switch. however, its runs horribly now. sounds like shit, i can accelarate alittle but when i really get on it, the rpms stop at about 3500 and flames shoot out the back, loud backfire. my apexi air fuel controller isnt turning on maybe that has something to do with it? also the check engine light is on, im going to get that checked hopefully today if not then tomorrow.
