Well I guess it's been doing that, just that I've taken more notice of every little thing that goes on with my car more frequently than when I first got it. So hell if it's normal to you guys then it's normal for me too :)

From my experiences Auto Tranny 7's start up quicker than Manual Tranny 7's.

When I had a auto in my car it start up with me barely holding the key.

Now with the Manual it take a little longer. It takes the same amount of time now as every other Manual Tranny 7 I have ever been in.

I think the Auto start might spin be strong/faster than the Manual Starter.

maybe they put a stronger starter motor cuz theres a more resistance on the engine with a torque converter than the flywheel? *shrugs* im j/ spitballing but i doubt they would, because common parts save manufacturers money.

cool? how so? I thought it was just a typical 7 with gunmetal dash, digital gauges, water injection and custom leather seats.

Oh sorry to hijack your thread.

You've got molasses in there now.

Switch to Mobil 5W-30 for the winter. Your motor will spool up MUCH faster, you'll put less stress on the starter and get oil flowing much quicker to critical components.

if it starts harder when its warm it usually a sign of compression being low. At least thats been my observation. Cold starts hard. Hmmm. Could be ignitors maybe?

Mine always start on the first crank. 105k miles.
Take your car to an Auto parts store that checks your battery for free. (Autozone) They also can see if your voltage is correct when you try starting.
Check your battery/post, make sure you have good (dual) ground.

HHmm...... The car starts up just perfectly fine after it's warmed up. It's just in the cold morning that it takes a bit more cranks to get it going. Actually sometimes it doesn't even take 6 cranks, sometimes it'll just start in like 3-4 cranks in the morning, but when I park inside a closed garage it starts up just fine in the cold morning. OH well......... Still gonna do a compression check.....

Even the RX8 I test drove took a few cranks to start. I think it's just a rotary thing.

exactly

teamstealth 12-06-03 04:11 PM

hell my dad's BMW 540i takes 8 cranks to start. Its a very high powered starter so it takes a VERY small amount of time but you can hear it crank 8 times....maybe cuz it has 8 cylinders and makes sure theres air/fuel in every one before lighting the spark off...who knows. But if thats the case, each rotor has 3 chambers, so it would almost make sense for it to crank 3 times. If it starts on one key turn drive it and be happy! :)
