Car Stumbles when stepping on the gas

I am new to the RX-7 world! I have had my 94 RX-7 for about a month and I have a problem.

While driving if I step on the gas to accelerate the car seems to stumble. I then give it more gas and it seems to kick on the turbo’s and then it takes off. I first was thinking fuel issue (Filter, bad gas, bad Spark) but today I am starting to think it may be something else. One common thing is it happens in all gears (it is an Auto, ya ya... I know why did I get an auto) and at all speeds was thinking maybe it was the transmission but when driving it shifts fine and it doesn't make noise or smell.

I did some searching and couldn't find anything that sounded like this problem. Any help would be GREAT!!

I will post some pics as soon as I figure out why my web server isn't working.

Thanks!!!!!

I'd start with the TPS - that can cause all kind of on/off throttle weirdness if it's out of adjustment.

How are the spark plugs on the car? Worn plugs cause all kinds of weirdness.

Does the car have a solid, steady idle?

Car Idles fine and it revs fine when in Park. I had a stumble issue on my 95 Mustang. When in park I could quickly tap the gas and get a stumble. When I do the same on the RX-7 it revs just fine.

yes, check tps, map sensor all to the rear of your intake manifold, then spark plugs, and wires for proper connection and function. Also if you havent done so I would change your tranny fluids. You don't want to be lubricating your transmission with metal particles if you have some in there. (ps been there and done that).

What a pain this is turning into. I hooked a meter up to the TPS and the readings were way off. Looks like I am going to have to remove the Throttle Body to get to the TPS to make the adjustments. I just hope the TPS isn’t bad.

I did find that when I disconnect the battery the car seems to run better for about 5 miles before the stumble comes back strong.

Hopefully the weather will be nice this week so I can try to get this fixed for the weekend.
