Car starts but has a weak idle :(
Hi all,
I'll keep this short as its annoying me :) Basically car has been off the road for 18 months. I've done the vacuum hose job; installed braided fuel lines a new D/P and a CAT Back system. I've got everything (pretty much) back on and when I start the car she fires up fine, there is a funny metallic clunking noise coming from the area of the CAT so I assume something is vibrating down there or something isn't sealed :( Anyway the engine runs but it sounds like its really struggling, eventually the revs drop, it slows and then completely cuts out. I don't have a CEL light on the dash but then I don't see it when I turn the ignition on, its been so long since I drove the car that I can't remember if it comes on when the key is turned... if its meant to then I guess I've got a bulb out. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking fuel starvation, vacuum issue (unlikely tbh as I was very thorough) or one rotor isn't firing... What does a car sounds like when there is detonation/fuel starvation? and if a rotor is out? Thanks Dave |
You might not have a CEL. I would first see if you do or don't. If you do, pull the codes. If not, follow this thread and see what you are getting:

Thanks, I'm off white water rafting today so I'll try and stop by a hardware store to get the bits and I'll have a look :)

Not had the LED yet through but tried with a normal bulb, either their are no codes or the bulb needs more power than the FEN terminal allows :(
Will wait for the LED to appear and try again. I can't imagine there are no CELs when the turbo control solonoid isn't even attached :) |
18 month old gas is the first place i'd look.

^ I have put a gallon of nice new 100ron fuel in there, I didn't drain the old fuel out but I did run the pump for for a few minutes to check for leaks and in the hope of mixing it a little :)
