car starts at 3000k rpms then drops to normal...

i thought i saw a thread on this a while back but cant find it.
car starts at like 3000k rpms and sits there for about 15-20 seconds till it warms up a little then drops to normal.
(its runnin rich, so idle is a little off anyway)

anyone seen it or have an answer? (save time of having everyone respond if someone has the post)

btw...
brand new reman w/ 200 miles
new turbos, vacuum lines, plugs, plug wires, coolant/oil levels are good...checked MAP and 02 sensor and they appeared to be good...all of that was done :(

that's the accelerated warm up feature. start the car in gear and should not do that.

ObliqueFD 05-31-04 12:44 AM

You can also buy a block off plate to disable it.

PVerdieck 05-31-04 08:32 AM

You can also give the gas a little tap and that will disable it.

FormerPorscheGuy 05-31-04 08:41 AM

This is completely normal.

SlingShotRX7 05-31-04 08:51 AM

Had my " Accelerated Warmup Start" AWS removed.

Its bad for your motor to rev on start up like that
with oil starved motor on a cold start..

1QWIK7 05-31-04 09:23 AM

yeah thats normal, what i do is as soon as i start it, i hit the throttle just a little bit and it goes down right away..

it serves a purpose so i dont like to start it in gear, i just let it do it for a complete second and hit the gas to bring it down..

unless someone with extreme knowledge on this can tell me its ok, i'll keep doing it my way...

Toadman 05-31-04 10:27 AM

The AWS is intended to get the pre-cat up to operating temps as quickly as possible. Obviously if you have a downpipe it's irrelevant. It's probably safe to continue to get the 3k rev, but it serves no real purpose other than burning more gas and revving an un-oiled engine.

1QWIK7 05-31-04 10:33 AM

^^good point

we're not supposed to have the pre-cat anyway :p:

Tom93R1 05-31-04 11:51 AM

If it is revving to 3000k there is a problem, 3,000,000 doesnt even register on the tach does it? :D

1QWIK7 05-31-04 12:06 PM

o crap, i didnt even notice it!!! hahahaha

im pretty sure a bridgeported 13b can do that though :p:

Don't you guys think that when mazda designed this system for the car, they took in consideration that the motor would have no oil pressure at the time, and that there is a reason for it.

No, while Mazda engineered a lot of things well in this car and I hold a high level of respect for them because of that, they also overlooked a lot of things in the S6 (US FD).

AWS was later removed from the FD in Japan, aswell as a redesigned 'rats nest'... so I think Mazda took in to consideration that the motor would have no oil pressure later on, and responded by deleting the system from the vehicle.

BTW, other companies like Nissan have an AWS in some of their vehicles but it is set lower (2000rpm) and is in an engine that is much less sensative to 'cold revving'.

heh mazda did alot of stuff to make this engine alil harder to deal with. ie: spark plug location, spark plug wire location, sequential turbos etc. So not everything Mazda has done is for a benefit. Just take what they have given us and make it better for your own use..

Oh I intend too... it is still an imazing car no matter what little flaws it has. That's why when I see Mr.Business in his Porsche I just keep rolling with delight because my car is special... his was just expensive.
