Car ran fine last night?

I got in my car last night after about a month of sitting in my garage....i ended up changing the oil, the coolant on it,also did plugs and wires...removed the egi relay so i can prime the oil in, after words put everything back together and drove the car for maybe 20 miles with everything running fine. I left it overnight to cool down so i can top off the coolant. This morning topped off the coolant and tried to start the car and it just cranks and cranks with no sign of even a sputter or anything like that. The weird thing that i noticed this morning is that even with the car being cold the fans were comming on as soon as i turn the key in the ignition..it never used to do that before. Also another thing is that when i crank the car for around 5 seconds or so i can smell gas in the engine bay, i cant really tell you from where tho...i have searched and nothing seems to answer my questins (being a newbie doesnt help either) Thanks in advance guys!!!!!

possibly flooded but that wouldnt make any sense..

First try checking for spark..Pull a plug out with the wire and ground it anywhere on the engine. Seems like your getting fuel but maybe no spark.

Also where are you in location to chicago?

OK new update....well i was not getting any spark because of a dumb aftermarket alarm that the previeous owner put on,rese the alarm and now the car strats backfires and dies.Tried a couple of times and car starts and runf for maybe 5 seconds and dies,i think now it might be flooded.

Charlies7 im in Brtlett,you?

Find out why you are smelling the gas first.

WOW you guys are replying quick, i appreciate that, I cant seem to rev it since it wont stay idling ill try again in a little bit since my battery started getting weak and now am charging it..do you guys think that the smell could be because i might have flooded the engine trying to start it when my alarm disengaged the ignition or do you think i have a problem somewhere else? Thanks!

rotory4life 04-27-07 12:54 PM

The smell could be from the flood.I think that the alarm is connected to your ignition, so if you dont turn off the alarm or try to steal the car. The car will shut off.Cuz the alarm is still on. You wont hear the alarm go off but it will turn your ignition off. I had the same problem with my old car. I brought the car with the alarm and the alarm was a shitty one. SO tryto get a new alarm.

Finally got it started, took the advise to rev it a little and now it idles fine and starts right up. Ithink it was just flooded from the alarm, i might just remove it to be on the safe side plus i stil have the stock alarm on. I had a check engine light on when i was reving the car and it was a little weird cause the car trid to die on me when i was reving it too when i let go off the gas it would die and start right up.COuld it be possible that my TPS or idle actuator is bad as well (again newbie so i hope you guys dont mind). Thanks again far all your help?

ground the ten connector and pull the codes.

What the hell is going on with this car??? I just drove it around 20 miles, now im having boost problems...primary is ok at 10 psi but when the secondary kicks in it boosts to 15 psi. I quickly took my foot off the gas. Tried it twice it did it both times Tried turning down the boost same thing. The old owner installed a manual boost controler with valves (it looks like he made it exactly the same as the Rob Robinette site shows except he has one valve and the other has vacuum hose has just a some sort of pipe)...I am going to home depot to get another valve and install it on the other side of the vacuum hose and see what happens...I'm a little scared cause i dont want to spend money on a new engine right now especially the beggining of summer when i can drive the car
The check engine light went away an i grounded both pins with no codes in the computer!

This is very weird,I guess i have grimlins in my car.Very common on the cars...hmmm

Any help is appreciated....Thanks!!!

Would guess he set it up with manual control on the wastegate and pill on the prespool. Keep in mind if you have the stock ECU and run over 10 psi. you could hurt something. Also be aware it doesn't take WOT to get full boost in any gear above 2nd.

look down near the turbos for popped off hoses on the actuators

dzverko 04-28-07 12:22 PM

Thanks a lot for the advice guys...i took the intake filter and pipes off and inspected the the hoses, everything seems to be where it should. Last night I took the car out for a ride and drove it on the highway...for some reason it would buck out on me for e second or two and then it would run fine (meaning not boosting because the boost is still around 15 psi)..The more i drove it the worse it got, also i got a check engine light flikering on and the weird thing was that when i try to boost the car (around 5 psi and no more) i would get the check engine light on and then when i let off it would go away...I checked the codes of the car and and it keeps flashing 9 (water thermosensor)...would this have anything to do with it bucking or should i be looking at something else....

Another weird thing that i am seeing is that i can hear the primary turbo winding up when im at 10hg on the gas,i dont think it ever did that before...it does really sound like i have a popped vacuum hose but i dont see anything to be out of the ordinary,i will take the intake out and check them again but i have no idea what to look for....

I am really getting frustrated and am thinking of going non-seq at this point (please help me so i dont have to open more work than i already have) Thanks again!!!!

dzverko 04-29-07 12:40 PM

New update...i removed all the piping off the turbos, the intake and look at all the vacuum hoses even looked for cracks and such things and i cant find anything wrong, where else should i look...any help and advice is greatly appreciated thanks guys!
