cant stop fuel leak around primary injector
 

I was smelling fuel under my upper intake manifold. The primary injector on the number1 rotor was leaking fuel. I replaced all injector o-rings from the dealer and some fuel lines (from the dealer) while I was in there just to be on the safe side. I checked for leaks and everything looked good. 2 days later I smell fuel again! Now the primary injector on the number2 rotor is leaking. Everything else is fine except for this one. I took the injector out to look at the upper o-ring. It looks good so I put it back in. Still leaks. Took it out, messed with it and put it back in. Still leaks. I ran to NAPA and bought another upper O-ring for this injector. They didnt have metric O-rings so I bought the closest standard match. Re-installed the injector with the napa O-ring and it still leaks fuel!!! The napa O-ring made for a tighter fit on the fuel rail so it sealed better but it still leaks.

I looked at the fuel rail for imperfections but everything looks good. Im thinking the injector may be the culprit. Is it common for the injectors to leak like this? When I installed the injectors, I lubed up the O-rings with clean motor oil as per the FSM.

I've heard of the bodies of the injectors actually cracking and causing a leak. Just heard of it, haven't seen pics or experienced it in person.

Check the leak closely. It is probably coming up through the plastic around the electric prongs. The stock injectors are notorious for leaking from that point. The only solution I have found is a new injector. The rebuilders cannot fix that problem to my knowledge.

I had the same issue, had to get new injectors and fuel rail.

I had the same problem with my injectors, and it turned out the injector itself was the culprit. I had to have both the primaries replaced. The plastic housing on the injector gave up the ghost after years of exposure to heat. I had previously replaced the o-rings twice before the problem was discovered.

I borrowed some injectors to test on my car. Hopefully that will solve the problem. Can a bad pressure regulator make one of the primary injectors leak? Someone mentioned that I should look into that.

Yep he probably needs new primary injectors. Don't just buy one, buy both and replace while your in there.

I've fixed a few cars with leaking primary injectors. I've never fixed a leaking FPD although I have replaced them on high mileage cars during rebuilds.

I tried another injector and it leaked less. A bad fuel pressure regulator was suggested as causing the injector to leak. Is it possible the regulator could be causing this injector to leak? The leaky injector is the primary injector on the #2 rotor (closest to the firewall).

If the fuel pressure regulator failed, it would probably fail with low pressure or just leak. I don't think it would cause abnormally high pressure or anything.

Sounds like the injector itself is bad. However; I would use only OEM o-rings. You may pay more but the fit is very close. After I sent my injectors out to RC Engineering for cleaning and balancing, I had to wait anohter week to get the O-rings ordered thru a dealer. RC said they did not have any that fit perfectly. When is comes to the fuel injectors I didn't take a chances with close fit ones from parts store that could leak.
