Can't get subframe to drop

I've searched and found a couple other guys with this problem, but no real answers to why the subframe won't drop while it's attached to the suspension. My work so far:

Following the tech manual, unbolted steering rack, removed sway bar, supported engine, removed motor mount nuts, supported subrame and removed the 2 bolts and 4 nuts, lowered support for subrame and it just dropped about an inch, that's it. By prying and pulling on it it looks/feels like the suspension (shocks) is keeping it in place, but according to the tech manual I should be able to simply push the subrame out of the way.

Is it necessary to unbolt it from the A-arms? If so, why doesn't the tech manual say that? Help.

yes, you have to unbolt the factory shocks from the subframe and use a prybar to move them out of their groove. When you go to reinstall, make sure that the spacer didn't slip inboard, or the shock mount won't fit back into the subframe. You'll have to use one of the bolts and a small hammer to move the spacer out of the way.
