Oil Level Sensor in the oil pan

Here's a pic I found on the internet showing an unobstructed view of the oil level sensor's lead connector (white), bottom center:

And here is a view of the other half of the distinctive connector (green arrow) that the sensor (red arrow) plugs into. I believe it then runs (blue wire) directly into the wiring harness, so your loose wire might have been yanked out of the harness, or might have been a harness bypass.

and it's the length that runs to the pan...it had that plastic sheath/cover on the wire. huge help.
