Can I get a 13psi radiator cap in a local parts store?

Drove my car this morning since it's a nice day, and when I popped the hood in the parking lot to let the heat out, I noticed some steam. Sure enough there's a fine layer of coolant around my radiator cap.

Wouldn't be a problem, just order one and be on with it, but I'm driving the car out to WV tomorrow. Can I pick one of these up at a Pep Boys, Advance or Auto Zone?

Yep.

Get one from the dealership. I had to replace mine several times (none of them worked properly) until I broke down and bought an OEM one. It's about 5x the price (like $25) but it worked.

I ended up getting a generic 13psi cap from Autozone, but I'll run by the dealer and see if they have any in stock.

One thing I noticed when I took the old one off was that there was no spring at all on it. I'm guessing that this is not what should be on the car. (This cap was on the car when I got it in May)

Now I notice that when I turn the car off, my fans aren't always running like before, and they don't run as much when driving either, could it be because the cap wasn't presurizing the coolant?

yeah from what people told me you need one without a spring...i could never find one so I got one with a 16lb spring...worked good

If u have no ast, a cap with regulating spring is on the t-stat hsg (filler neck). Just below the cap, a coolant overflow line goes to the overflow tank in front or the right wheel. With no ast, using a no-spring cap there would result in a zero pressure system, with lots of boiling and overheated coolant.

With an ast, spring cap goes on ast, and no-spring cap goes on the filler neck, although a spring cap would work there too.

Auto Zone cap worked fine for me. Also, if you can't find em on the shelf, they have em listed as 13 lbs caps for 94 and 95 rx-7's. 93's they have listed as 16 lbs.

Ok, this line applies to me. I have an AST (replaced stock AST) with a spring cap, and I bought a 13psi cap because after doing some searching the general concensous was that 13psi would work fine if the rest of my cooling system was working properly.

Exactly the one on the top of the pump is supposed to be no spring but I dont think it matters because at least the top portion is not flowing to anything specific.
