can blowing your engine hurt your turbos?

I seem to recall reading someones post where
he said his engine blew, and some metel went from
the engine into the turbos, and hurt the turbos?

It was a while back, so i dont remember who/when/how exactly,
but i'm wondering if this is possible?

My turbos were working great before my engine blew,
and I have no reason to think theyre not still working great,

but i'd like to know just incase.

Thanks

well when u blow the engine usally it envolves damaging a apex seal...these pieces of mettal have to go throught the turbos after they exit the combustion chamber...the turbos may seem fine but most likely if u pull them appart u will notice the blades may be damaged..they wont be running as efficently therefore less hp...

If you blow a piece of seal out an exhaust port, your turbos could take some pretty nasty damage.

I hate when someone replies seconds before I do saying the same damn thing.... Sorry to waste your time.

oh I see,
but how common is it?
i mean, does it happen often that the turbos die when
the engine dies or no?
and is there any way to check?

It depends on why your engine failed. If you blew an Apex seal there's a good chance that the seal broke apart and the turbo impeller problably injested part of the seal.
If it was a water jacket that went the turbo's will be fine.
Best way to check is when the turbos are out look closely at the impleller blades and spin them. If they're not damaged and spin evenly and don't wobble you're probably good.

how much does it usually cost to fix something like
that on the turbos do you think?

cash money 08-30-01 02:30 AM

did you check them are they bad?

cause if they are, the whole turbo system has to be rebuilt when they get messed up from the motor being blow i think

well i'm pretty sure if they're hurt you just have to fix
whats hurt... not the whole turbo system,

butNO i havent, and have no way to check em

still needs a new engine, so when that happens it'll
be solved, but i'm still curious
