Calling all Rotary Expert!

Hey Everyone, To begin with I've got no clue about rotary's in general but I just got one the other day out of the blue and it seems a little odd. Apart from the back firing which most people said was normal there's one other problem that I just can't work out and I dont know if this is normal either.

In any gear, when I put my foot down hard on the throttle all I get is backfiring and the car is sluggish, jolts and doesn't even seem to move...A few seconds later it seems the fuel or something gets through and then the car starts to drive normally. Is this delay normal??? Is it a fuel pump problem?? Or am I running too rich?? Help!!! I can't stand even Hyandai Excel's beating me when this happens LOL!

You have the 3,000 RPM hesitation. Change your plugs and ground wires. Look here http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/3k_hesitation.html

This link contains very good information. If I have any success, I'll post my results.

Sounds exactly like my problem until last week...excessive backfiring/popping, unresponsive acceleration, etc.

After extensive research and feedback from forum members, I narrowed it down to the water thermosensor and/or thermoswitch. I changed both. Luckily it was right and it runs perfect!

Note: If this is your problem, you might want to get the miata thermoswitch while your at it. Temp needle doesn't even budge now!
