a/c removal and question about greddy elbow
 

can anyone help me out on this, i wanna try and remove the a/c my self rather then taking it to shop(quoted my bout $400 for the removal). how hard is it to do it your self and what do i have to do? i searched but i cudnt finda anything. Are their any how to's? and my other question is i got greddy elbow coming in but i was looking at the stock one and that has coolant hose on it but on greddy you cant put the hose on so what do you guys do? just block that hose with screw or something or wat? any1 walk me through this i wanan try and save money! any help would be greatly appericated!!

it's pretty simple. the biggest issue will be draining the system, just make sure you do it safely. my a/c apparently had a leak and was empty when i removed it, so i can't help you with that part.

basically pull the belt of the compressor's pulley and disconnect all the lines. the heater core is in front of the radiator, don't forget that (if you're following the a/c lines they will lead you to the core so it's hard to miss). once you get rid of all the lines, pull out the compressor. there are a few bolts holding it on, so just feel around for them. i had my engine out when i did all this and it was a good while ago, but when it comes to tearing things out, just figure out what's holding it in and work from there. just don't break anything ;)

for the GReddy elbow, it doesn't have a cooling line going into it. if i remember correctly, that tube is part of the EGR system, recirculating from either the air pump or something like that.

how can i drain the system out? but besides i think my a/c need refilling! Wat thas the heater core, u sure i thought that would be like something to do with a/c and your heater cores goes inside ur car under your dashboard! and can someone clear this for me cuz ijust found out that you have to remove your p/s and a/c together cuz their like connected together or sumthin like that? is this true?

Your power steering is on the same belt as the A/C....so if you remove the compressor (not necessary if you unplug it so it won't energize the clutch) the biggest problem is getting the freon out (if the system needs to be charged it may have leaked out already) I'm sure there is a belt for just power steering as not all cars came with A/C so do some reaserch.

Eh? Every FD came with A/C, either factory or port installed.

i know that! but someone told me that if your remove a/c completly that you have also get rid of the p/s as well you cant just have one on! cuz their assemblemed together! i know you can buy belt just for p/s! but i want to get rid of my a/c, like the whole unit!! do u guys understand what i am trying to say or no?

SO your saying that these cars couldn't have power steering unless they had A/C ? ? ? They are mounted on the same bracket but in no way are they connected together except by the belt. Call Ray Crowe and see if he has a part number or replacement belt for power steering without A/C. I don't thik were having as much of a time understanding you as you understanding us. If you want to believe the guy that gave you the BS. information then why bug us about it. ?

And why would you want to remove AC?

1) Weight.
2) Car is not a street car.
3) You're frequently in the engine bay and it's in the way.
4) It robs power (see #2)

My reasons anyway.

Re the OP, you can remove the condenser under the dash by removing the glovebox. It's in the FSM.

Keep in mind that if you want your heater to work, you will need to remove the guts from the box the condenser is in, and then re-install the gutted box.

Or you can buy a box to install in its place:

The only advantage of the custom box is you can leave the condenser in one piece should you want to reinstall it or sell it.

Re removing the freon: take it to a shop and ask them to remove it for you. I had it done for 20 bucks. That is nasty stuff, best have it done by someone with the equipment.

Also in the FSM: heed the warnings about the compressor oil. It is clear like water, but not too good for your paint.

Something tells me it's his street car though.

#4 - it's not when you turn it off. AC compressor pulley spins freely just like tensioner roller.

i cant seem to find anything to do with a/c compressor and condenser in FSM

Because it's covered under the body electric manual, which you can also download from the stickied tech link thread.

If your car is a '93, you may have to download the 94 body electric manual; I don't think there's a link to the 93 one. The 94 cars used R134 instead of Freon, but that shouldn't matter if you're removing the system...

yeah i got the 94fsm thanks guys! no i am just figuring out a way of removin it without having to take off the p/s but it hink ia m goin have to

so i got my a/c out and air pump it wasnt bad at all! now only thing left is the condenser which i am tryin to find other ways to take off so that i dont have to take my rad off then get to it! i also removed uim body cuz i am replacing all the hoses as well. now i am wondering you how know theirs tubes going from the air pump under the uim, when you guys take those tubes or hoses off from their(underneath uim), what you guys do make block off plate to cover it their or just leave those tubes there? and has any1 tried those yoohoo belts for the airpump removal if so how are they? is it better then greddy pull kit? does it have any1 tension on the waterpump?

remove plastic undertray and condensor accessable from below. It mounts with 4 M6 bolts

ya i dont have undertray on my car! ya i am going to do that! oh ya and another quesiton when i took off the uim i smelled fuel fumes! but other then that i neva do and wen i looked for leaks around injectors no smell their wats ever! but around tb their was! so this normal?

Keep in mind if you make allot of changes without driving the car after each change it's very hard to tell what messed up. So you may want to take your time while your ripping stufff out and replumbing hoses . Sometimes just removing the air pump alone can cause the idle to hunt, or stall so if it doesn't run right when you get through doing all this at one time it will be very hard to back track what made the difference.
