A/C recharge questions
 

I recently fixed my A/C which had leaked out all of it's refrigerant. I need to refill the system. What are the basic steps? Do i need to refill the oil in the system too and how do i do that? I think i have it all down right but i wanted to double check. Oh and i have been retrofitted to 134a. Thanks!

Ok, since no one replied maybe i need to be more specific. I know i need to start the car, take off a cap at the low side of the system, turn the a/c on high and allow the coolant to enter through the high side of the system. Where is the cap I need to remove? Is it really this simple? Still wondering about the a/c oil but i do not think i need it. Thanks in advance for your help! Have to figure it out or i will be frying in my black/blakc base soon.

My advice is to take it to an A/C professional. If the system is empty of refrigerant, it will need to be evacuated to have all the moisture and air sucked out. This will require professional equipment.

And yes, you need to have oil in the refrigerant or added to the system to lubricate the compressor. I don't think this is a job for the novice. An evacuation and recharge just isn't that expensive, and mistakes can mean costly replacement of the A/C system.

The freon contains oil, and is under pressure. Once attached (to the low pressure side), the bottle should be right side up, not upside down. Open the valve and the freon will be dispensed into the ac system. There is a way to do it through the high side as well, but it's safer to stick with the low pressure side. There is instructions on the bottle for recharging, follow them and you should be o.k.
