A/C - Problems with electrical switches
 

Hi, my A/C was blowing hot air so I decided to look into it and try to get it going again. First thing I noticed was that the compressor was not spinning when I pushed the A/C button on the dash. We checked the pressure/freon level and it is good. Seemed as though there was too much oil in the one line though.

Anyways, I followed the wire that comes out of the compressor to a plug and made sure it was connected good; seemed fine. Well when I took the plug apart and ran a jumper wire from the battery to the plug, the compressor started working fine and was blowing cold air. Now question is I guess, where does this wire coming off the compressor go to? Does it go to a pressure switch before going to the A/C button on the dash? Is there even a pressure switch(switches?) on the FD? Either a pressure switch is out or the button on the dash is not doing its job. Anyone have a similar problem? 1993 RX7, Original A/C system, R12 Freon

Magnetic clutch wire, black with red stripe, does indeed go to refrigerant pressure switch, which sits in the cooling lines right under or near the battery. It then goes to the A/C relay via a black with blue stripe. The A/C relay is part of the relay box at the front of the engine bay, under the stock air transfer box. 2nd relay from the left. After that, it goes via yellow wire to the Air Cond fuse (15 Amp) on the main relay & fuse block mounted next to the battery. It's the second fuse down on the right hand bank of fuse, I think.

Then to the main fuse itself, but if that was out, other things wouldn't work. Happy hunting!

Also, the operation of the A/C relay is controlled by the ECU via a yellow wire with black stripe, and a blue with black stripe from the relay to the 15A ciger fuse in the driver's footwell. Fun stuff!!

jump the low press switch. see if the compressor turns on. if the charge is ok , via gague, and the compresser turns on the switch is open. if it still wont turn on then you will need to trace the power and signal /\
