A/C Condenser

Could I use a used the A/C condenser from a 94 FD to my 93?

Thanks

FormerPorscheGuy 03-25-04 05:14 PM

No, I think they are different. I think that they stoped using R12 after 93.

But hey, what do I know.

rx7even 03-25-04 06:03 PM

FormerPorscheguy is correct, they are different.

rynberg 03-25-04 06:14 PM

I'm pretty sure they still used R12 in 94. They didn't switch to R134a until 95 (or maybe some of the late 94s).

xchaos 03-25-04 06:46 PM

They are different by model. Base and R are the same, touring is different.

BLKTOPTRVL 03-25-04 07:16 PM

I have r12 in my 94.

93BlackFD 03-25-04 07:34 PM

i'm going to be using the condensor from a 96 240Sx

don't sweat the details...

Why?
I need a new condensor and it will be custom mounted anyway is why I ask. is it bigger?

mad_7tist 03-25-04 07:59 PM

r134 condensors are bigger usually than their r12 counterparts because the 2 gases transfer heat at different efficiencies.

the_glass_man 03-25-04 08:03 PM

A/C hahahhahaha wuss boys! ;)

93BlackFD 03-25-04 08:20 PM

because i broke the FD one, and yes it's bigger, and R134 compliant

A/C is for the co-pilot, she won't ride without it

mad_7tist 03-26-04 12:17 AM

a/c = win

how may times do you take the car "to shows" cleans up the engine bay. right.. it makes a mess of the inside with all the sweat.

DaiOni 03-26-04 12:26 AM

Not sure about US-spec - but JDM changed to r134 in late 93

Whys it for wussies? Some of us like to have "nice" street cars, not race cars.

Exactly. I think some FD owners unnecessarily make their cars less streetable, for some macho factor, maybe? I mean how many of the people here running hard motor mounts, 6-puck clutches, etc., really need those things? Silly.

mr.zoom 03-26-04 06:42 AM

Could you still get R12?

If not, would it not make sense if you use the condenser for an R134? I brkoe the fitting on mine so I need another condenser and charge the system back up

HeatTreated 03-26-04 09:09 AM

I dont know one FD owner around here who wouldnt want A/C in dead of summer.

I have black leather and love to chill in my car with the A/C blasting listenening to some tunes!

4 wussies my a$$

Put the windows down and drive faster. I guess we don't need single turbos, or 3 rotors unless you are "hardcore".
I know my car is about 10 times easier to work on without a/c, ps, airpump. Not to mention the car runs cooler now as well.

I agree. Easier to get to spark plugs as well.

Yes, but it's damn expensive (compared to the R134). The main reason to switch is because of cost and availability.

Don't break it then you don't have to worry about it. ;)

Personally, I don't remove "features" from my car just to make it easier to work on it. If I gained something by removing something (i.e. removing the precat and gaining some power without sacrificing anything), then I would do it. But for me, I would gain nothing by removing features like P/S and A/C. But, everyone can and should do whatever they like to their own cars. Just don't force what you do to your car, onto others. Let them do as they please.

You gain a really cool location to mount a nice alum custom bracket to mount a ignition amp and coils. I guess over all I'm pulling mine out cause I'm tired of looking at it, the p/s and a/c just make the engine bay look so freak'n ugly. Plus I guess if I cant live with it I can always put it back in

People are mounting and relocating these things without removing those options....

mr.zoom 03-26-04 12:40 PM

Does anybody know if I could just bolt in the 94 condensor to my 93 and put in R134

mad_7tist 03-26-04 01:39 PM

yes if the condensor fits it will be no prob. you will have to flush the system and put in the right type of compressor oil because the r12 type oil will not work in 134
