A/C Compressor Help!!!!
When I turn my a/c on, the compressor wheel/clutch tends to squeak. Sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. I replaced the belt already, and I have tried belt dressing crap. It still squeeks. Have any of you had this problem, and is there a quick and easy fix? Should I just tighten the belt tension?
Thanks |
If you can, watch the clutch while the engine is running and a/c engaged. See if the clutch (compressor) stops and the belt continues around giving the squeeling sound. If this is what's happening, a new compressor is inorder, valves gone.

I think they are both still spinning, but I will go check again

if you need a A/C comp I just took one off my car you can have it for 150 plus shipping:)

thanks, hopefully I won't need it. I just tightened the belt, and there isn't any more squeaking, but the a/c is really only blowing cold when the car isn't idleing. If I am running it down a street it will blow cold, but when I come to a stop it starts blowing warm.

I once had a squeek coming from that area. It ended up being the idler pulley being too tight.
If it IS your compressor, then as Turbonut mentioned, it may be going south. Have you had the system checked lately? If it's low, adding some freon oil MIGHT help it. |
I had it filled with freon and freon oil, but it was overfilled, then someone bled it for me, but may have bled to much out. It probably needs to be looked at again.

Glad that's all it was. In the absence of gauges, when you "fill" the system feel the large line coming out of the firewall. Fill to a cold feel, possibly a slight sweat. If you put too much in you'll have liquid going back to the compressor....Then you can take Rikki up on his offer.
