So Ive been thinking about going to the dark side and selling my Fd to fund something a little more practical. This Rx-7 was my first car ever and i have grown quite attached to the beautiful curves and world class handling,but theres a part of me that wants to move on to something more practical but equally as fun.For me that car would be an 07-08 Audi Rs4 or maybe an E92 M3 depending if i go to college in a state that allows me to have Rwd year around.

I was also considering keeping the Rx-7 and buying an STI Or Evo as a dd but still dont know how much i like either of those cars....

I know one thing foresure if i do get rid of my Rx-7 it will only be a short time before I own another because they are truly amazing cars and I absolutly love
them. I would keep mine but the weather in pittsburgh is terrible alot of the time and i want a car that i can enjoy year around.

why not just keep it if you said it would only be a short time before you own another?.. The new Sti does look really nice, just grab that as your dd then..

I'll save you the hassle. I had a FD my freshman year in college and sold it my sophomore year for something more practical. Bad move. It was the first car that I've regret selling and actually had a connection with. I graduated college and that year I bought another FD. I also bought a Stage 3 S4 as my daily driver. Best thing I could do.

I have a 400+awhp COMFORTABLE daily driver while I was building up my single turbo FD. This was important, as if I didn't have another fun daily driver, I don't think I would have gone 1.5 years working on the FD to get it finished. Now I have 2 400+hp cars sitting in my garage. Get a daily driver (AWD) and keep the FD. It isn't worth it as you said, you'll just end up buying another one in a few years.

EDIT: Looking at your sig...I would NOT sell that 27,000 mile FD. When I bought this FD, it had 69K on the chassis and I thought this was low mileage! If you are interested, my S4 is actually up for sale.

Man, I am SO in the same boat.

I've had my FD since November 2008....blew an RE motor on the dyno before I even got to drive it thanks to a leak in the wastegate diaphragm, which caused it to overboost during dyno-tuning..

Then only about 1 year later after making ~400rwhp on an REW motor, THAT blew...

And now I'm 1 1/2 years into my 2JZ NA-T project, and it's STILL not done.

After driving around my '89 Accord DD with 280,000 miles on it for the last SIX years...I finally bought myself a fun, reliable, and ECONOMICAL daily-driver to satisfy my "need for speed".

I've honestly considered selling the FD once the 2JZ project is complete, but I think for all of the time I've waited and money I've invested....I would really regret it. There just isn't any other car in existence that fits me the way the FD does...and gives me the feeling the FD does. The FD really feels like an extension of my body when I drive it. My depth perception, the lines of the car, it just feels natural...

I just have to keep telling myself "As long as I get that same 'OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS CAR!!!' feeling when I drive it again, I'll keep it."

I think I've just gotten impatient, is all..

For you, I think you need to just get yourself a fun, stylish, turbo-charged daily-driver, that'll be fun enough to throw in a couple bucks for a little more umph....but will actually get double-digit MPG's... :P

My daily-driver of choice: 2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T Limited

274hp / 269tq - 30+ MPG - fully-loaded - ~$30k price tag out the door

Long story short..

Keep your FD, but just get yourself a more affordable, reliable, and economical daily-driver.

I think that is key. As of right now i drive a 2000 Toyota 4-runner dd. It is a very bland souless gas gozzling POS. I believe this is the source of me wanting to sell both my cars and just buy something so much nicer then the 4runner.when in actuality i should just buy an evo 9 or 06 sti and keep the Rx-7..... im always interested in seeing whats out there inbox some details on ur S4:)

I've deffianantly got impatient with the 4-runner,its the exact opposite of what i want to drive.

I know exactly what your talking about I valet park cars on the weekends occasonally and have basically driven every car imaginable and nothing give the feeling/driving experience tht the Fd does.The handling, the way it inches off the ground, the way the car just feels like its a part of u in every imginable way. The reactions that i get when driving by car enthusiasts and the constant "thts a V8 Right?" questions. I truly do love this car haha

I will not sell my RX7 , but if i need to buy something similar i will buy a Catherham.

The more inpractical car you have more fun!!!

If you want something practical and not fun buy an STI.

I've had 2 FD's before my current one. And over the years have went through a few cars, WRX, 240, Evo. I sold my 2nd FD and WRX to pay off loans and decided I still desired a fun car. I then got the EVO to fill the void since its a good mix of both. Ultimately, I got another FD to complement the evo because I missed the feel of RX-7's. I recommend keeping the FD and getting another car. Once it is gone, you will most certainly miss it.

dont live far from you ..did almost the same thing... i sold my prelude and jeep(winter beater) and got a dodge ram.. miss the hell out of my prelude ...

buy a cheaper decent car... suck it up.. drive it.. that way you"ll always have your baby

honestly i would keep it, ive driven and owned more cars than i can shake a stick at, but for me the FD will always have a spot in the garage. i wanted one since the young age of 6 and when finally getting one i can see myself giving up on my dream car. i think your best option would be to get a reliable fun DD so you have your day to day fun and save the FD for the weekends.

Honestly, a '95 240SX makes for a great DD too.

Black on black, automatic, SUPER clean inside and out, gets ~25MPG I'm sure...

HIS weekend car is a 450+rwhp '78 Datsun 280Z with an RB25.

I think the 240-260-280Z with a 2JZ or RB25 is probably the only other car I would consider, if I sold my FD.

Good question. It happened during the RE's very first dyno-tuning session, is the best I can tell you....so, it was unexpected.

You don't need to sell your FD, or spend $30k for a daily driver. I have been a long time believer in fast fours & rotaries. With this, the most famous fast four is the Honda.

The world of 90's Honda's is full of options, fun & easy work. They really are like lego's. From a clean little hatchback to a 4 door Civic, the swaps are easy and even in stock form their DOHC engines can handle boost very reliably. 300whp can be had easily with a stock B18B, and it will put Sti's, Evo's, and even FD's to shame in some cases.

Want something that goes well in the winter? There is an answer for that too. FWD with quality snow tires does great in the winter. I live in NJ currently so I feel your pain of the NE. My little Civic dominates NJ winters with ease.

AWD = shit MPG. Another beautiful feature is the MPG. Whether you go turbo or stay NA, the gas mileage is relatively the same on the highway. AWD cars are heavy.

I built a 93 hatchback a few years ago, full suspension, bushings, bars, coilovers, LS-Vtec swap, kept it NA. It was the best car EVER! Ran a solid low 14, got 30mpg, and handled like a go-cart on the mountain roads. The thing was also a work horse too. Could haul anything in that car because of the hatch with rear seats folding forward.

If your not in the mood to start another project, then fire away on Craigslist. There are some well built cars out there for $4-$10k. I would also recommend looking into RSX-S's. Another great daily.

These aren't the best cars for a college student, that's for sure - with that said I have many great memories with the car I'd have a hard time duplicating with anything else

Just keep in mind you will probably not find an FD in as nice a condition as yours when jump back in the game. If you had a high mileage car I would think differently.

You should wait for that new Toyota Scion FT-R or whatever it's called. It's very practical and will be rear wheel drive, something the Scoobi and Evo don't have.

Totally agree, its such a low mileage car it'll be a PITA to ever get another one like it..

That really sucks. I've had overboost protection save my ass a couple of times. One time I forgot to put the vacuum hose back on, and there has been a few times that boost creep got me while tuning.

That 280z is sweet. As a kid my best friends dad had a Datsun dealership. I remember looking at those when the were on the showroom floor.

I like how you think. I've always loved the EG hatch. I wanted to swap a b18b or c into one of those since those swaps have been around. I used to know a guy with a turbo b18b integra, and it made about 300 whp. That thing had trouble getting traction, but it was pretty damn quick... making me want to get an EG and do the swap again!

OP, nothing wrong with an E92 M3, I'd love to have one. They're heavy as shit though, expensive. Kinda huge too... esp compared to the FD. There's someone on this forum who has some pics of the two cars side by side. FD looks tiny by comparison.
