bye bye engine

Well, it looks like it's the end of engine #1. She made it to 65K miles before losing a seal. Checked the compression just now, 75psi all around on the rear rotor(which is bad to begin with), and 80-40-40 on the front. Really couldn't have come at a worse time. Beginning of summer, slow at work, and sevenstock's coming up in 3 months. Oh well, fuck it, life goes on. Look for a large street port and single turbo in the future.

mightyslash Jun 20, 2002 09:00 PM

Damn man, good luck with your new engine and single turbo.

black99 Jun 20, 2002 09:28 PM

That does suck.. Sorry to hear that.

Bucrx7 Jun 20, 2002 09:38 PM

That sucks man, hopefully you'll get it up before summer ends.

jspecracer7 Jun 21, 2002 05:07 AM

What are you guys talking about? Sure that sucks for NOW...but at the end of the rainbow is the baddest, meanest SOB running the streets...fully ported single turbo 13B...

neevosh...Good luck with the new engine!

IT'S A TIE BALLGAME
BATTER UP

blackscorpio Jun 21, 2002 08:08 AM

I just blew mine on monday  was the first time Ireally opened it up this year after breakin in my new act clutch.

ttb Jun 21, 2002 11:40 AM

for those whose engine went bye bye was it all of the sudden or were there signs? rough idle? low power? smoke? basically i'm trying to estimate how much time i have left before i need a new engine. thanks

blackscorpio Jun 21, 2002 11:52 AM

My motor would smoke excesively on start up. after i put the cluch in I drove easy for while to break the clutch in. So on moday i was past the break in perion and decided to test out the new clutch and the drag radials aand top acceleration, the run when excellent but when i pulled over i notice eratic idle 500-750 rpm and white smoke  . I drove it 20 miled home but couldnt get compression over 3000 rpm. I parked in the garage. The next day car started up but couldnt idle. Started if up again there was a loud screetching nois and it died. decided not to mess with it anymore.

My signs were hi idle and heavy smoke on startup.

Moral of the story is-Dont open the car up unles the motor is strong.

Dont_Be_A_Rikki Jun 21, 2002 12:16 PM

Blackscorpio,
what are your vac readings at idle?

This is the main thing, the vacuum at idle. My car idle's between -320 and -380...at 1000 rpm's. I may not have a "blown" engine, but I have definitely lost compression somewhere. I have seen similarly modified cars with -500 at 900 rpm's...

vosko Jun 21, 2002 12:34 PM

should pull atleast 15" of vacuum for those of us with autometer gauges ;)

Bucrx7 Jun 21, 2002 12:40 PM

If you blew your motor your boost gauge would fluctuate irradically when you're on the gas, it did on mine and others that I know.

Blade7 Jun 21, 2002 12:50 PM

mine went this past monday(17th) . no sign whats so ever, she just went pew!! mine is under warranty , but i have to come up with proof of my oil changes. Quick question, how do i prove to the warranty companty that i have changed the oil on a reqular basis if i have lost most of my filter and oil receipt???

thanks

Dont_Be_A_Rikki Jun 21, 2002 01:04 PM

Did anyone check the Map sensor(boost sensor) vacuum hose located on the firewall? it is known to blow alot please check this:)

So when your motor has 9" at 750 rpm(as my motor does) that's not good huh? :D

95R2-89TII Ground Zero Jun 21, 2002 01:27 PM

Sorry to hear that. Good luck with the new one. I just went through the whole my engine is blown thing, but I just found out I'm running great compression. So as for your car...I hope you have it at 7 stock too. I'm thinking of taking my FC there. I'll leave the FD home this year.

neevosh Jun 21, 2002 02:55 PM

I had some gas dilution going on and a lot of oil consumption under hard driving. The car was running good on the weekend. I made 271 RWHP @ 10psi a few months ago on DP, CB, intake, and FMIC. I had no signs of detonation when she let go. Debt sucks, but it looks like it's time to max out my credit card. At least now I got a project to work on.
