bye bye
I wanted to say goodbye to all those on this forum as I no longer will be the owner of a 3rd gen RX-7. Here's why -
On December 21 going on Bay Area 880S at 11PM a blue Saturn hydroplaned spun out turned 180 degrees on a straight freeway and drove head-on into me (I was driving 4-5 car lenghts behind him at about 60 mph in the rain) and also the car that was behind me. I was lucky to only have sustained one collision as the Saturn got nailed 3 different times. I walked away with no injuries but needless to say my car was totaled. The people in the Saturn and the cars behind me weren't as lucky, although I wasn't sure how they were doing because CHP arrived almost immediately and shooed me away so they could pry people out of their cars. The police report came out today and I was at no fault so at least I know the Saturn's insurance company didn't try to spin any stories - quite possibly because the Saturn sustained no rear end damage meaning there was no way I could have rear ended him and caused him to spin out. To make things even more complicated I was out of the country 12/24 - 1/5 so the accident came at a very inconvenient time. Rather than get my 7 fixed or buy another one, I've decided to part it out and be done with it. I'll definitely miss driving it. I won't miss the constant headaches and the hours pouring through forum material to find out what ailments plagued it. For now I'm just going to stick with the car I still own and possibly look into trading that in for an E46 M3 sometime down the road. Having owned two 3rd gens over the span of 6 years has me desiring something easier. I think I finally want a car that takes care of me rather than the other way around. I'll be parting out a bunch of new/uninstalled parts and unscathed items I'll be pulling off my totalled vehicle over the next few weeks so keep your eyes peeled. It's with sorrow that I am saying goodbye to this magnificent car and this great community. Take care all. |
Well that's sad but i guess we all comes to this point at one day.

Sad to hear that, I think that's like everyone's nightmare. Well I'm in the Bay Area too so drop me an email. Let's see what parts I'll be able to buy off of you. |
Sorry to hear about your FD. The car can be a headache at times but I know if I didn't have one anymore and I saw one pass me (even in a E46) I would miss it too much. But a E46 is a great choice and I think you'll enjoy it just as much. 2 problems though - not as much looks and stuck in the low 13's - good luck and hope you find something you enjoy.

I live in the Bay Area also and that really sucks man. Amazing that someone driving a front wheel drive sedan can lose it going straight down the highway.
Good luck with your next car, I'm sure you will miss your FD, but a new M3 will certainly help you get over it! |
Man, you guys are vultures, the guy just totaled his car, and your worried about what parts you can get from him tsk tsk.... Sooo what parts are up for grabs???:D
