Buying a new ECU ( Adaptronic )

Im looking at buying a used Adaptronic ECU w/ SSI-4 and a Tablet for on screen gauge display.
Im getting it for $1000 used.

Anything I should look into before buying it?
I pulled up a bunch of threads comparing these to the Apexi and it seems like the Adaptronics is a slightly better unit.

Yes, Adaptronic had a number of issues with their ECU and the rotary engine. You may want to check recent reviews or installs to ensure those problems were addressed and fixed.

If it were me, I'd go with A Haltech Platinum unit or just stick with the Apexi as it is tried and true. If you have a tuner in mind, call him and ask.

Go with the newer modular series and get in touch with Shawn Christiansen to tune it. I believe Elliot White still tunes them as well.

Thanks for the advice.

As someone else who is also in the market for an ECU that will do E85 as well.....what about the Link ECUs? I don't hear very much about those but they seem to be fairly robust from a feature standpoint.

To my knowledge there is almost zero support for link in the US rotary community. Stick to what your tuner recommends

I'm currently thinking of ditching my Adaptronic as the support is limited and my car has never ran totally right on it. I'm thinking Haltech Elite 1500.

What kind of support issues are you having? I'm thinking about going with Adaptronic.

Since you brought it up... I moved on from a Adaptronic S6 PnP M2000 to a Haltech Elite 1500.
Im not knocking Adaptronic but I'm happy with the move..... just my 2 cents.

This.

I'd recommed a haltech platinum over any model of adaptronic, every single time. There's actually one for sell now on these forums for a great price. The older adaptronics have a history of frying themselves randomly requiring you to ship the unit to Australia to be fixed, on your own dime. I personally know of 4 ECUs this has happened on. And like David stated, the new modular units have their own issues. If you check the adaptronic forum or my post history you'll see the story on them. The modular units are the definition of a half ass product.

Just buy the haltech now, you'll save yourself alot of headache.

$1000 PS1000 ECU FOR SALE

There ya go. Same $1000, just better spent.

I've seen quite a few posts of people asking about adaptronic and getting recommended haltech which is fine expect when it comes to tuning. I believe there's a vendor that offers remote tuning for adaptronic and while I know this isn't ideal there's no one any where near me that tunes rotarys. Is there anyone who's reliable that offers remote tuning for haltech?

Any competent tuner who is capable of remote tuning the car on one of those ECUs should be capable of doing an equally good job on the other. If they only advertise they only do 1 type of ECU, they're either not worth a shit at tuning or they are trying to stick you to a product they sell.

Whats your turbo setup on the car? Still stock sequential twins? And how much boost are you trying to run?

Chris at Rotary Performance is saying he prefers it to Adaptronic for a variety of reasons. One of which is their 24/7 support since they have people around the world.

This may have changed since I last looked into it as its been a number of years and I've only gotten 1 request for Link. In my experience I prefer Haltech over anything.

LOL, not anymore. I've been going back and forth with them this week via email. They are only responding during Aussie working hours, so when I respond in the morning, I don't hear anything until the next morning.

Good to know. Have you tried their New Zealand, UK, and US based support numbers too? They list all of them on their web page.

It's the stock seq twins. For me right now Im just slowly working my way towards a single setup and that's what was one of the appealing things about getting a tune by email. I could add an upgrade or two and be able to get someone who could get me a solid base map to take advantage of what I added with the end goal of being single and tweaking and making the map myself. Like I just upgraded my ignition system and fuel pump and while it runs fine on the base pfc map, I know it could be better. But to properly take advantage of the pfc Id need datalogit and if Im going to spend more money on an ecu Id rather just upgrade to something more modern and that's where I had my eyes on the adaptronic.

It seems there is a smaller set of support staff and only 1 tuner for the Adaptronic. I will say, it hasn't been awful, but due to a fairly recent event with Adaptronic staff, I want to at least consider the Haltech alternative. My experience was not normal I suspect, so it's very possible you would only have good experiences.

@ItalynStylion Where do they list phone numbers on their site? All I see is a form to email at adaptronicecu.com.

The PS1000 doesn't have the outputs to run the sequential twin system and you'd need the ps2000 however its perfectly suitable for a parallel twin or single turbo setup.

Honestly the best thing you can do if you're going to be a gradual modder and you dont have a friend nearby who's damn good and likes to tune your car for free is buy a quiity modern ecu, learn how all the engine protection stuff works, and teach yourself. Its really not that complicated. The people who rep it as crazy black magic are those who profit from it being perceived to be crazy black magic.

Myself or a number of other experienced reputable people on here could easily set you up with a basemap suited to your car and get a remote baseline set to start working forward with some guidance. Seems sketchy, but its motherfucking rewarding. Modern engine protection allows you to setup failsafes that will catch you if you fuck up while learning, so it really becomes a matter of effort and willingness to learn.

Haltech Elite was the best money spent on a mod out of the 25k in mods in the car and out of the 4 other ECUs I've ran the car on it is by far the elite product, on all fronts.

Take my opinion with a grain of salt, I'm no automotive professional
