Buying an FD. Help me decide!

Hi all,

I've got a line on three FDs that I'm considering purchasing:

- '93 Silverstone Touring model, mint, 13K original miles, drilled airbox, RB catback, M2 ECU, Bonez DP, Boost Gauge, $20K

- '94 Chaste White Base model, mint, 24K original miles, stock, $20K

- '94 Red Touring model, mint, 30K original miles, stock, ~$18.5K

Out of the three, I'm partial to the '93 Silverstone as it is my favorite color for an FD, has the least miles, and it is lightly modded and is set up the way I want it to be. If I were to buy this one, I'd leave it alone.

However, my concern with this car is it is a '93, being the first year model and (correct me if I'm wrong) is more prone to issues, e.g. 5th gear synchro, recalls, peeling dash, easily chipped paint, etc.

The other two I'm also open to buying, but I don't much care for red or white! But, from what I understand, '94+ cars have all the fixes and *should* be more trouble-free?

Basically, my question is, are my concerns with the '93 justified, or should I consider more the '94 cars from a reliability standpoint?

Input appreciated!

i would try to meet the drivers of the cars that u have their, i would not want to buy a fd from some 18 year old cause he prolly beat that car. Is that the motors miles or the chassi miles??

Pick the one that is the best in your mind. Most 93's have been repainted already.

I am partial to the 94/95's because, as you say, they had some of the bugs worked out. Also with the 94/95 you get, passenger side air bag, slight changes to the dash and interior (which I prefer), the air conditioner coolant is updated from freon to a HCFC, the sunroof on the touring model changed from metal to glass with a removable plastic insert (which I prefer) and I think they added stiffener bars to the rear subframe. In fact I think the suspension was tweaked all over (a little) to improve handling but I don't want to oversell this point. And 94/95's are rarer, a lot rarer.

personally i think you should buy the one that you would be most happy with. If silver is your favorite color, and you found one with really low miles and in mint condition, dude scoop it. plus it has a few mods on it already. Also, you got to remember that once you fix something that was wrong with the car, chances are you are straight for the rest of your time owning the car. also, im assuming they are all 5sp trannys, cuz if there not, dont even bother. lol good luck. Just make sure you will not regret buying the car cuz of something like its color, trust me people do this!

yea, I got a red fd and after a couple years it started to piss me off, so I sold it just to get another color..

get the white one, and when/if you get sick of it, I'll buy it from you.. as long as you tastefully mod it or leave it stock. ;)

Get the 94 chaste white.

1. It's a 94
2. It's white and not so many of those are around I believe.

Yeah, that's my 2nd choice next to the '93 Silverstone and it's close! This car is local, the other two I have to travel to buy. Female owned (i.e. not dogged) and has all maintenance receipts. Plus, it's a base model which is the lightest of all RX-7s which I prefer. And, I have a sure sale to "neofreak" when I ever decide to sell. Hmmm...decisions, decisions! :D

definately.. 100% especially if you use the mods that I like.. and even more so if you buy my spare parts. =) We're local so its even easier to sell to me later. =p

I would go with a 94 over the 93. I have had one of each and my 94 had much less problems than my current 93. Make sure you do a carfax report on the car before you buy it, and I would have it checked out by a reputable rx7 shop. Good luck.
