To buy or not to buy... (advice needed)
 

Hey, just signed up today for the forum, have browsed it before, but i need some advice right now. There is a 1993, says 92 though (they didnt make them in 92 did they?) but its a 3rd gen rear end (thats all thats shown in pic). It is priced at $5500, has rebuilt turbos (or new cant remember), new clutch, and new cat. Only problem is that it says needs engine. Here is my problem, im on a limited budget (im 16 what do you expect), and 5500 would be pretty much all i can afford right now, although i do have a fairly good job, and would be able to afford an engine later on (i have a car for now to drive so thats no problem). How much is a new engine going to cost me, and would it be worth it to put an engine in this.

1993 is usually meant as the "sale year" while the car may have been made in 1992.

If the turbos are ok, then an engine rebuild will probably run you about $3000 depending on the amount of damage to it (for parts).

Are handy with tools? If not, labor is expensive to have someone work on these cars. For instance, let's say you have to have the fuel pulsation damper replaced. The part may run you $180, but if you can't install it yourself, the labor will run you about $700.

Keep in mind that you are looking at a car that's about 10 years old. There are bound to be other things that need to be replaced if they already haven't (suspension comes to mind). You should probably wait until your pockets are a little deeper.

Don'y get it. You'll have time to get a cool car once you get a good job, and are grown up.

Ok, thanks for the advice, i decided not to get it, considering that i wouldnt have any money to get an engine after i bought the car (pretty sure the car has no engine, so rebuild wont work).

HERE is the car incase anyone was interested in it for themselves, i havent called or looked at it, so i cant really tell ya what condition its in.
