Broken Solenoid Repair - Broken Nipple Repair
 

I dug this out of Sonny's thread...the Overhaul thread...It's somewhat hidden in his write up so I figured I would pull it to the surface since people are alwasy breaking solenoids.

I would have done this and saved myself $75 on a used set. Sonny this is great. Kudos dude!

i just broke a nipple too, but i have like 4 extras hehe

It is JB Weld. I roughed up the replacement nipple with some sandpaper so that the hose wouldn't slip off. It never came off, so the fix worked really good. I drilled that with a drill press. It would be very hard to do with a hand drill.

I did this same mod last year. It works fine. I highly recommend getting the correct #drill size for the nipple you are using. A light press fit (.002 to .005) is preferable to using glue or epoxy in a loose hole. And, as noted above, drill in a press or mill. Note that the type of plastic these are made out of does not reliably bond with most chemical agents.

Well, rats nest has all new meaning to me now. Maybe six hoses just fell off and one nipple on one selonid make have already been broken. I just touched it and it basically fell off. Throttle body was misadjusted way out of whack.

So here is what I did to fix the nipple. Wally World has this great epoxy called PLastic Welder. I use this stuff for everything. It hardens in about 5 minutes and it is really tough. I got the solenoid lined up with the nipple and built up the area all around the crack. It worked well and sealed it off so that it would hold air pressure. That was the major setback of the day. Started at 7:30, got done about 2:00. Replaced everything but the one hose that runs down in behind the lower manifold. Buttoned it up and started the car. Runs great, boosts good.

I don't have a boost gauge, so I went down and bought a cheap one at the auto parts store. I figured it would be good enough to tell what the turbos were acting like. On the boost side, it is 10 psi max on the gauge scale, and when running it pegs before WOT. I thought the car was stock, but maybe something else is going on...Seems like a lot more boost than 10 psi.

Anyway, all the advice was very good and accurate. Job is done and I feel good about it... Thanks..
