broken passenger "door grab"

i just wanted to know the preferred method, or any success stories, on how to fix this stupid piece. i would guess some epoxy and maybe a piece of pvc inside, but im not sure. so if anyone has fixed it, if you could let me know how, i would appreciate it. thanks.

I held mine in with some epoxy type stuff, and let it dry real good, and i make sure i tell people not to grab it hard anymore. Held up pretty good.

I used the "how to" from the Robinette site when I fixed mine. Here is a link:

fairly easy to do, and it worked great after I had finished.

Good luck!

i took my door handle apart and took out the spring, i couldnt get my drivers door open, but after taking out the spring its perfect and easy to open. There is not as much stress on the plastic POS without the spring.

door handle fix

Do it the right way like on the Robinette site or it will keep breaking. Mine is repaired and is stronger than new. I can not believe how flimsy the original design was.

Try racing harnesses?

Isn't that a recall item .. and the dealer should fix for free ??

gdnimr0d 03-26-04 08:14 AM

someone should look that up for us so we can all get a free new piece if it had been a recalled piece

DamonB 03-26-04 08:34 AM

It was never a recall item.

Just something to note.. my car is a JSPEC and mine broke as well.. so , don't feel bad guys :-)

Yeah, I too beefed mine up after it broke, and yeah...I was amazed at the total poor design and inherent weakness in that piece!
I epoxied mine and then fiberglassed in some steel support pieces. It has held up perfect ever since.

Here's a trick I learned from the autocrosses. When you're driving hard, have your passenger wrap their left arm around the back of the seat and brace themselves with their feet against the floor. If they do this, they shouldn't need to use that grab handle at all.

I did this the other day, when riding in a Shelby Cobra replica (factory five, for those who know about them), he only had lap belts, not shoulder harnesses, and no grab handle (doors open from outside only, it was sweet). It keeps you in your seat very well.

when mazda built the probably most sexy cardor on any japanese car why did they make it sound so cheap when you close it?
it is like beating an tincan with an hammer:)
gues it would help to put some blacktop plates there to kill the sound a littel. what do you think.
