broken key's
i have broken my key's to my 94 fd like 3 times within the past year. is this common for everyone or is it just me. i searched and found out that some key's will crack no matter what. is this ture??
mine is bent and since this is my 3rd time, i made 5 copies of my key just in case!! |
What kind of keys are you using? The cheap ass ones from the hardware store? Both of my keys are OEM and I've had no issues with them at all.

Buy a Spirit R or Efini key.
|
not a common problem..
|
its an orignal key. when i took it to a locksmith to remove my key from the outside key hole, he said it will alyawy crack because its too thin on one part.
i dont know if that is true? |
btw, are the spirit r key or the efini key stronger?

I used to be a service manager for a Mazda dealer, and yes it is common for Mazda keys to bend and eventually break on FD's, this is because the key is designed not to go in all the way in the door key hole, and every time you turn the door lock cylinder with the key, it twists the key slightly at the point of where the key is exposed out of the cylinder, and little by little, eventually it cracks, then breaks.

I retract my previous statement...
|
I've broken and cracked a few keys. You might try lubing up the lock actuator cable. That basically solved my problem.
Plus if you have hardware store keys cut, pay attention to the length of the key. I have found long ones and shorter ones. The shorter ones last longer. |
u can always get keyless entry
|
my keys seem to bend in the ignition since i keep the door lubed. doesn't seem to take much, i just need to find some stronger metal keys. i've never broken one, they just twist and i have to twist them back to get them all the way into the ignition.

I still have the keys to my dead 93 and there is a crack that's pretty evident right where the key sticks out of the door keyhole. The Ilco brand spare keys seem to be a little stronger, but the plastic at the end of the key seems to be cheaper. The plastic tends to break right off the key ring. |
Yes, the keys on this car are very thin compared to some other keys. I had one break on me, which resulted in me being stranded in cold weather w/o any pants on. Man, was it embarassing to call AAA to ask for a lock smith to come out.

I have the Efini key and had no problems. Trust me, it's strong.
