Breakables........
 

I just brought home a 93 touring model. It was a 600 mile trip and on the second gas stop I managed to break off the gas hatch. I just walked into it on accident. Ayway, I noticed that it was just made of plastic and not metal. My question is: what other parts of the car (minus the interior) incorporate this plastic? Also do these particular parts break because they were originally weak plastic or do they break because their 13 years old and just need to be replaced? Thanks all for any help.

Exterior-wise, the only things plastic are the tank filler cover, the side mirrors and the headlight covers. The headlight covers tabs that keep them on tend to break and then fly off...

Master of the obvious answer: Pay attention, If you walk into the thin steel door of the FD, it will bend. Gas door is very fragile, even new.

Wow, thanks to you I've now devoted myself to becoming a masterful attention payerer.

After 14 years of FD ownership and participating in the original list and then this site: We have had many with lack of driving skills, lack of respect for power and what dangers it imposes, and with no mechanical skills, but this is the first real instance of non masterful attention payerer behavior that I can remember.

Figured I'd get a bunch of immature knocking posts from a honda or acura etc. but not here. It's what I get for being honest I guesse.

Anyway for those with the know how and care It would be neat if someone with access to the faq or related materials would make a insert on some of the things that this post originated about. I've got about six friends from my base that have or do own FDs and most of them ran into the same problem I did. One actualy bent the door (didn't know it was "supper thin"). I ionized the whole faq and relating lit and don't really remember it talking about this specific topic. (I could of just blown by it, sorry if I did.) Honestly I'm used to metal parts on a car and didn't know any better. I could probably bet my life that other people have done this and felt to embarsed to post about it.

Ohh yeah, some of the other UH60 drivers and my self got a crack out of your post crew. Were gona post that sweet quote somewhere in our opps building. The exterior door pulls are also made a cheap material that has a tendency to self destruct, as well. It really doesn't matter how well you pay attention to these though :)

The doors are made of very thin material, do not ever actually push on the doorshell to close it, you will have a dent, always push on the door handle. I have seen many hand sized dents from people closing the door from the wrong spot, or worse attempting to hip check it closed because their hands were full. This does require you to pay attention :) :)
