Break in question
 

I've read the other break in threads..

but i'm asking cuz mine is slightly diff..

i'm using brand new housings, as well as oem 2 piece seals and brand new bearings..


do i still need to do it the 2000/1000/1000mile break in method?

4,000 miles of breaking in seems like ALOT of miles to break in..

i'm lucky to do 50 miles a day! and the FD is not my DD it's gonna take me an eternity to put that kind of mileage on...


doesn't anyone do it the otomoto way :lol:

Around 500-1000 miles is a good amount to break in last time I read I think... just stay off boost...

agreed, i presonaly never heard of waiting 4k miles to break in a rebuild or even brand new motor

on RETed's site I think it was it says

1000/500/500 when re-using bearings

and double that if it's new bearings

for how short lived rx7's are, seems like a waste of miles. hopefully one of the rotary specialists on the forum give you some good input on this. if you find out that its wise then i'd def do it, no sense taking the risk

i heard someone filled up the tank and let it idled until it died; that was his break in HAHA

i'm almost at the 500mile mark on my fresh rebuild...time for an oil change soon. still haven't seen any boost yet.

I just got done breaking in my new motor and I did 500/500/500/1,000. Words from Chris at Banzai Racing. Worked great for me!!!

Im not recomending it but with my new motor i had a tunning date in another city 3 hours away and just got the car started the day before. I heat cycled the motor about 6-8 times and then it went on the dyno and tunned at 16 psi. I went to the track at 800 miles and ran a 10.87, changing oil about every 600 miles becouse i dont drive alot at one time. I went to the track on the last day it was open and ran a 10.9 flat with a poor 60 ft time. Im now about 3000. miles and it just continues to run better. I felt it would be better on the motor to get proper tune than to try to drive it untuned for 3000. mile to break in. Compression #'s are right on. Like i said not recomending it but ive seen engines babied and blowen up in 500 mile i guess its how its built!:fingersx:

I'm breaking in a new engine. New rotor housings (mild street port), and oem seals. The builder said under 4k for 1000 miles, and stay off the boost. At 1000 miles it will be tuned, and ready to do whatever I want.

4000 miles seems ridiculous.

Pretty sure that most dealerships that install remans let their customers hammer on them from Day 1. I've never heard of a Mazda Dealership telling their customer to "keep it under 4K rpm for the first 1000 miles." However, many builders with great reputations pass along this advice to their customers. It would be nice to know how much this TLC approach adds to engine life.

My question is how do they break in race motors that are fresh, do they do it on an engine dyno. I can't see a GT race team driving their race car on the street for a 1000 miles no boost.

I just broke in a fresh rebuild that has a street port and 3mm apex seals and my engine builder said 500 miles oil change, another 1500 miles oil change and good to go, engine runs great .

Well i am breaking in my new motor and was wondering what the boost partern should look like as i am breaking it in. Like what kind of boost should i let the motor see at what points in the new motors life???

I have been told to keep it under 4k rpm for 500 and then gradually increase the boost and rpms slowly. Until 1000 and then i am good to go. Any other suggestions.

I hammer every engine at 20 miles after an oil/filter change, never rebuilt an engine with used bearings either.

I broke in my rebuilt engine, new rotors, OEM seals with oil/filter change at 250/500/1000/1500/2000 miles. Used AMS oil filter magnetic core, cycle oil for extra lube and kept car under 3000 rpm.

Better safe than sorry.

2000 miles seems a little excessive. I mean that is a lot of miles just to break in a motor dont you think?
