Brakes - pedal to the floor
 

Question for the brake gurus out there....
Lately I have been able to drop my brake pedal all the way to the floor. For example, at a stop light, while waiting there, if I just push I can get the pedal all the way to the stopper, even though the car will stop much before that happens if I am moving. It dosn't seem right, and was not like that before...yet I can't figure out why.

Any ideas?

I have bled the brakes and checked my pads (attached picture). Pads look ok and bleeding the brakes went great (speed-bleeders installed).

I don't have enough experience to be able to judge the pad 'health' so I included a pic of my brake pads in case anyone wants to rule out (or not) the pads.

you are loseing pressure you need to check your master cylinder for leaks and get it fixed now before you get hurt...

Your rear pads look a little low, but I agree with the rikki. Don't hurt your self.

Thanks for the reply guys, any idea where to be looking for leaks, and isnt it vacuume that the master cylinder would be leaking, not pressure?

I have been outlooking at a house to rent and 3 hot chicks live there and I move in 2 weeks from now it is silly I feel great plus we all went out drinking I am going to become a man ho....

I had a similar problem with my brake pedal on my car, 89K miles on it.

Turns out the master cylinder was bypassing.

My car would stop, but if I continued to hold the pedal down, after a couple of seconds, it would start to slowly sink to the floor.

Check your shop manual for the troubleshooting procedure for checking the brake booster. Once you are satisfied it's good & you already bled the brakes. It's time to bite the bullet & buy either a rebuild kit ($90 from dealer), or a new master cylinder ($240 from dealer). Auto parts stores also carry a rebuilt master cylinder for $130.

I replaced my master cylinder with a new one from the dealer. Flushed & bled the brake & clutch system with Motul 600 brake fluid. Works like a charm........

just a thought - it does sound like you're master cylinder, so if you're going to replace it, you might want to think about upgrading to a 929 master cylinder so you can run a big brake kit efficiently if you ever want to upgrade the brakes later
