is this brake feel normal?
 

I noticed while driving, if I hit the brakes they feel "like most other cars" then if I quickly let off and get back on them they get "real hard" like i pumped them up.
I haven't had the car for long. I figure the "hard" is normal. so what do you all suppose the problem is? the lines look fine and I don't think the master cylinder is leaking externally.
they dont fade, and when I sit stopped the paddal stayes firm.
this happens when the brakes are hot or cold.

any ideas?

bleed brake? new fluid?

yeah I would start there and then see if you still have a problem. If so then i would check the master cylinder and get some steel braided hoses

is this after you have pumped them up on decel? does the soft feel ever happen at a stop? or does this soft brake brake feel happen only when in motion?

A brake bleed never hurts, but some of the symptoms don't seem consistent with air bubbles (if it is onl soft when moving)

Any brake experts here?

a friend of mine had a good idea. Im loosing vacuume to the master cylinder. either a bad check valve or a leak on the vac line or in the master cylinder.

what he said made sence. when I first hit the brakes I have POWER brakes. when I let off and get on them quickly again..... I don't have the assist...
right now the peddal feels the same if i run the car shut off the engine and then pump the brakes 2 times like I do on the road from time to time...... at first I have assist... then I don't
ill start by changing the fluid and bleading... just to have it done and rule it out. then Ill look for a leak in the vac line. then a bad check valve and finally Ill replace the mastercylinder. It'll be 2 weeks till I do all this so if any of you get it figured out before then, let us know!

I would flush the fluid and bleed first. It worked for me.

Hate to dig up an old thread but I figured it was better than posting a new one since there is a little background here already. I have the exact same symptoms on my 93 right now. I just installed SS lines, new rotors, new pads, and completely flushed out the system/bled with new fluid and speedbleeders. I am 99% sure there is no air in there.. but like the others here when I first get on the brakes at any time it feels 'normal' or even a bit soft. I have found that if I tap the brakes real quick before a stop, lift up, and then get right back on them the car stops 200% better.. feels like my molars are getting sucked out. I plan on looking at the vacuum assist because I have a feeling the problem lies there.. anyone else solved their problem yet?

Ok I don't know where I heard this but I think that all RX-7's are this way because of how high they had to run the brake lines throughout the car. I have heard that some of the lines run at the same height as or higher than the master cylinder and therefore it is almost impossible to get that solid pedal feel on the first initial press of the pedal. I forget the specifics of the post but it was a while back and had a lot of replies because a lot of us at the time wondered what the cause of that phenomenon was.

Don't take any of this as gospel because I am going completely from memory and it is about as long as my little.... well I won't go there but you get the idea. If anybody else has any insight into this problem/odity I would really be interested to hear them.

I always assumed it was my OEM rubber brake lines were going south... I had hoped it would go away when
I eventually upgraded my brake line to SS ones. I'm
still going to get the SS lines, however, I'm very curious as to the outcome or possible findings of this thread.

I mean, sh*t, my company car is a Taurus and it's initial brake feel is better than my 93.

Do you all guys on this thread have 93's or are there also some 94's & 95's experiencing this problem?
