BOV location??

I just installed a GReddy FMIC, i wondering of it is better to run the bov closer to turbo or T-body? Advantages/disavantage??

thanks

In my experiences the throttle body, because when it closes the valve is right there to releave the pressure. Others might have different opinions

It's better to run it near the throttle body.

Jeff who runs Turbo Auto in Nashville said the correct location is near the throttle body .Turbo Auto is a turbo rebuild and high performace supply business .

I asked Corky Bell about this a while back - I was lucky enough to meet him in his shop in San Antonio and chat with him for a good hour or so.

He said it's really more of a case of packaging - you put it where you've got room for the BOV. It might be better closer to the TB, but I've seen installs both ways and have never really seen a problem.

In other words, I wouldn't break my neck to put it close to the TB.

The GReddy FMIC will mate to the GReddy elbow (to the tb), which is just begging for a BOV where it curves. That, and it's only 90 bucks and made of aluminum!

greddy BOV elbow with a greddy BOV installed is a super tight fit. More so if you have a strut tower bar.

Unfortunely i have the greddy elbow w/o the bov flange.

Thanks everyone this helps alot, i have it near the turbo before with no problems; but with new IC piping thought i would ask b/c i need to get a flange welded.

thanks and rotor on...

I never knew the GReddy elbow came with a flange. All the ones i've seen had to have the flange piece welded on. I know a lot of the shops that sell them weld them for you (like rx-7 store, etc). However, I learn something new everyday :)

Also as a point of note, a ton of FD owners put the BOV near the TB on the elbow. However as Saburo said, it is indeed a tight fit with that tower bar. Let us know how it works out!

My accelerated warm up has been removed, so in my stock elbow there is actually a flange already right next to the TB I can connect an aftermarket BOV, awesome!!

HAI-TEK7 03-22-05 07:59 PM

RedR1, I got the flange seperate, it didn't come with the flange.

Spekdah, how does the car start with the aws removed? I'm thinking about capping it, or just remove it.
