boost spike
ok I have a Pettit down pipe and I up graded in take system and I'm getting pikes above 14 psi. i called Pettit and they sent me a Pill kit to fix my pike problem but try all pills and still having boost pikes over 14psi. Any one need help just want to drive my RX with out always looking at the boost gauge??????

stop boosting or get a pfc and get it tuned
|
help
what is a PFC????
|
????
anyone else out there???
|
its and aftermarket ecu
|
An ecu isn't the answer to the problem. Are you sure you are installing the pill in the correct line? A pill will definitely solve the problem, if not eloquently. A boost controller, either manual or electronic would be even better solution to the problem.
Do you guys not research these things before you just starting bolting parts on? |
Cant you just get a boost controller? You can make one by your self its very simple! And it only ends up costing you $15 or i would recommend a joe p mbc very good mbc and $60
|
do you have a mid pipe? if so get a resonator or something that should help... i'm running full exhaust with stock ecu. NO problemo here! (knocking on wood :D)
|
I would either port your wastegate or put in restrictor plates in the exhaust system.

creep is from exhaust that flows too well. spike is from the secondary coming online and because you have 'efficiency'/breather mods it is spiking your regular 10-8-10 boost pattern to more like 10-8-14-10 I had the same problem.... solved with a boost controller... you could go with the pill route... but if you ever plan to upgrade your car more you will need a boost controller anyways. ;) be sure not to mess with your car with it spiking like that.... it will be expensive (I would know) |
A midpipe can cause boost spikes as well as boost creep.
A resonated midpipe will have the same effect on boost as a plain midpipe. The resonator generally adds no restriction. You can keep fooling with pills. Try unplugging the wastegate and precontrol solenoids - if this brings boost down to 8psi, then there is a chance the right size pill will work. I would absolutely install a boost controller. The PFC has some boost control functions but it's really not comparable to a full manual or electronic boost controller. Dave |
wow, lots of bad advice on this thread. has anyone actually read his problem??
there's obviously something wrong if your spiking at 14psi with just intakes and a dp. is there already some kind boost control devise on your fd? seems that your pre-spool is off, maybe the soleniod is not working properly. i'm not completely sure if thats the problem though, its been a while since i posted about boost related issues.... |
There is no other kind boost control devise on my fd? Just a DP and Intake never had the problem until the DP was put on. The pike is intermittent , but off the line it seems to work better that when your already moving. thanks for all your help any other help would still be great....

Boost controllers (except for needle-valve type) use boost feedback to control the boost totally independent of the stock map and solenoids. Therefore, as long as the WG capacity is not exceeded (see "creep"), a boost controller will control boost MUCH more effectively than the stock system can. Apexi AVC-R = End of your boost spike issues.
