Boost Question

How much boost can a stock RX7 take? Also, who makes stronger internals if any for the rotary?

bump, come on someone has got to know. Please help.

It's all about the tuning. The basic internals (rotors, e-shaft, housings, etc) are fine up to some serious HP levels (definitely safe up to 750 rwhp, not sure how much more).
Guys have bolted on huge turbochargers on completely stock engines and ran high boost numbers (like 25 psi) and had no problems at all. How? Tuning.
Like I said, if you take the time and money to buy a good EMS and to have it professionally tuned properly, than the stock rotary engine can handle tones of power and tones of boost.

I'm sure you have heard lots about apex seal failures from boosting lots. Just to prove my point more, many companies have proven the stock seals to be perfectly fine at boost levels in the 24-30 psi and won't break from sheer horsepower until about 1230 hp!! It's all in the tuning.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Thanks, thats encouraging. I just got a new job and it pays me quite well so I may be getting a RX-7 shortly. I'm more of a reciprocating engine person but, these rotary's really impress me.

about boost

Just like Bridgeported said its all about the tuning. The stock motor with the stock fuel system can only hold 10psi if you start adding mods like exhaust, filters, downpipe your boost starts to go up anything over 10psi on the stock fuel and computer can cause you to run lean resulting in engine faliure...this is a problem with a lot of people who do not know what theyre doing.. ive heard of people disconnecting the wastegate actuator hose in order to get more boost... an FD with intake and downpipe will be good on the stock fuel and computer, if you plan to add even more mods like midpipe, catback, bigger intercooler, etc it is reccomended that you upgrade your computer there are many computers out there such as Pettit Unlimited ECU sells for $700 new, Apex Power FC $1200, Haltech around same price as Apex... once you get the computer now you can run more boost.. because you can tune the car.. as for the stock twin turbo's go.. 14.7 psi is already pushing it.. if you want more boost and go ahead with a single turbo, you will now need more fuel.. an upgraded fuel pump with bigger injectors is what you need to get.

Welcome to the forum, and Another piece of advice.. Dont do GHETTO mods...
