Here's the fuel cut numbers:

https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...2&d=1266339148

At 5000 rpms, that would be about .84 bar. If you can accelerate beyond 5000 rpms just by slower acceleration, then fuel cut seems likely. If it is fuel cut, yes an EBC should help as long as there is enough backpressure to allow the wastegate to be functional.

JDM-AREX7 06-09-10 01:48 PM

ok seems like weve found the problem :D ... Thanks so much guys and especially to you Mahjik :) ... thanks for explaining everything so well and not gettin anoyed :D...

ok ... lets see as ive got a JDM RX ... ive got no precat! Ive got a Catback with a 3" dia... Stock cat still on but i dont know about the condition... anyways planning to go for a decat! So i guess i will have to port the WG and buy a EBC! ... so best bet is to go for a EBC first with stock cat and see how it behaves! If problem is still the same... go for a Wastegate port :)

Does that sound ok? Or am i missing anything :D?

Mahjik 06-09-10 01:57 PM

That sounds like a good direction. Let us know your progress.

JDM-AREX7 06-21-10 07:11 AM

Ok... so here are the news...

just got my EBC HKS EVC4! Installed it... And also got an Panspeed ECU mapped to 1.1bar (not planning to go to that kind of boost yet just wanted to get rid of the fuel cut so that i could boost a stable 0.8 bar)

Well ... setting the EVC at 0.4 bar car boosts and pulls quite well... upping the boost anything over 0.5 ... there it is again... so its not the fuelcut i guess (as the panspeed ecu is mapped to 1.1 bar so the fuel cut must have been removed right!? ...):( :( :( ... could it be a clogged cat or anything!? omfg im pissed with the whole story :( ...

Mahjik 06-21-10 08:30 AM

You are going to need to troubleshoot your fuel and ignition systems next.

JDM-AREX7 06-21-10 09:37 AM

just a thhought... could it be one turbo not working right and... so im on one turbocharger only and one turbo is too small for boosting on high rpms!? like installing a Garrett T2 on a 2jz engine as a single turbo!? ... just a thought ^^... whole thing drives me crazy...

well ignition... wouldnt it be backfireing or something?!
Fuel... maybe secondary injectors not working right?!

kensin 06-21-10 11:16 AM

Boost leak ? Smoke test it.could be the main turbo actuator?

JDM-AREX7 06-21-10 11:25 AM

ok little update...

Installed the decat to check if the cat is clogged... if i run the EVC4 in learn mode ( which means stock boost as preset by the WG spring (w.o restrictor pill) MAX boost is like 0.48 bar! Wich is 6.9 psi! That cant be right with a decat!? ... It should be boosting much more right!? ... regardless to say as soon as i raise boost a little it starts acting funny again :(... daaaaamn it... i allways tend more and more towards a broken turbo :( ... but nothing is smoking :( so no oil burning in the turbo!? ...

Dudemaaanownsanrx7 06-21-10 11:39 AM

Check your fuel pressure. Or if you have access to a wideband use that to check your afr's. And as suggested pressure test your intake system.

kensin 06-21-10 12:29 PM

When turbos go bad. You will know. I had seq setup and was having problem passing 0.40bar on first turbo but when second kicks in it will shoot up to 0.98bar and continues. End up being a bat turbo control. In return I cracked a apex seal. Lol

JDM-AREX7 06-21-10 12:45 PM

ok UPDATE..: feel a little proud now as i think im coming closer ^^... workin day and night on that car as its not givin me rest...

SOOO today i checked the charged controll valve... i wanted to check how much force is needed for it to move so i tried it with a screwdriver ... it was stuck closed first... after using a little bit more force it became loose again (opening and closing with not tooo much force) ... So i thought maybe thats my problem... the CCV stuck closed !? ... and i thought it should be open if you are running parallel so i wired it open (with a cable just to test) ... @ WOT the car wouldnt go past 0.2 bar !?!?!?!? ... so i thought maybe thats the wrong way... so i wired it towards the other side (closed) ... @ WOT the car behaved like it allways does with the only difference boost was coming earlier and the break down too ...)

SO ... i assume... secondary turbo HUGE boost leak or broken!?!?!? ... therefore only running the first turbo / CCV stays closed as secon. turbo is not making any boost to open it... and therefore the turbo gets exhausted in the upper revs! ...

WHAT THE F*** COULD BE WRONG?! ^^... i just bought the car... dont wanna slam my Holset HE500 in it :D ...

-****EDIT*****

according to that_ http://autosportracetech.com/RX-7/Tu...leshooting.htm ... if the flapper arm on the ccv is pulled in it is closed meaning im boosting only the first turbo ---> making 0.2 bar so weather there is a huge leak somewhere near that turbo :( which i cant believe otherwise the 2nd. would be leaking 2... or the turbo is gone bad?! ... wiring the flapper open... second turbo kicks in... boost surging through prim. turbo on high boost beeing the problem?! ... that would also explain why boost is coming on so late...

JDM-AREX7 06-22-10 08:14 AM

took of the intake pipe today to have a look at the turbo! ... cant be bad as its sucking air through it... and when i hit the throttle it sucks quite well actually and it doesent sound broken ^^... So now i have 3 ideas:

1. The intake pipe is kinda wobbly maybe as soon as it gets hot and the turbo sucks air through it it bends and there is not enough air coming through ...

2. the pre controll actuator is messing arround!? but that wouldnt explain low boost up high

3. there is a huge boost leak somewhere opening even wider after 0.5 bar!... that i havent discovered yet... but i did a leak check :/ ... maybe the wrong way ..

kensin 06-23-10 12:49 PM

ISO whould say smoke test it.

JDM-AREX7 06-30-10 01:25 PM

Ok forgett about everything before ^^ ... damn

Did a leak check! Boost is fine! ... got a nice boost behaviour for non seq. with the decat! uninstalled turbos / got the wastegate ported ... thats why i can even run only 0.6 bar! ... Installed everything again... no leaks at all start getting boost from 1800rpm and full boost is there somewhere around 3500 and 4000! ... WITH the Decat now when power breaks up it sounds more like misfires than whoo ^^... its misfiring def.!
So i thought it could be the sparkplugs...
bought new ones and installed them! One of the old ones had some deposits on it but they all seemed ok actually (just covered 3000 miles) ... While replacing them a rusty peace of metal fell out of a ignition lead.!? ... maybe its breaking apart...so i think ill go for leads next !? :/ ... think its an ignition problem!

Anyways while changing plugs i discovered two more things

1. Oil sensor kinda thing in the oilpan!? whats that? It has a plug but its not connected anywhere just dangeling arround!? Is that normal???????

2. wtf ...there is one broken cable (blue with brown stripes) but i cant seem to find the other "broken" end!? What cable is that? Could that be having anything to do with my problem???

brad89au 06-30-10 04:22 PM

do you have the restrictor pill in the wastegate line? my friend was having exactsame problem, took out the pill, no more fuel cut.

Brad.

JDM-AREX7 07-01-10 01:02 AM

No :/ no restrictor pill installed as the WG is directly connected to the boost controller now and not to the stock solenoid anymore!

brad89au 07-01-10 07:24 AM

how does it run without the ebc?

JDM-AREX7 07-01-10 08:13 AM

without the EBC installed it keeps boost at 0.48 and does not misfire that bad at high rpms under load!... I guess thats because the wastegate is ported! on stock WG spring with no restrictor pill in line it doesnt get any higher than 0.48 bar!... :/

btw. found out what that broken cable is! Hooked it up to the ground and i had the red light on the oil press gauge lit! ... Son of a B**** disconnected it cuz the pressure gauge acts funny sometimes (sensor issue) so that i wouldnt notice when i first bought the car!... Mother***** .... anyways... replaced the sensor so im tryna figure out where that cable goes so that the warning light will be working propperly again! Maybe connect it to the other weird plug that dangles arround coming from a sensor of the oilpan... anyways thats def. not my problem!...

Think it could be the igniotion leads as some peace of rusty metal fell out of one when i took off the plugs... :/ ... so im gonna go for magnecore and let you guys know if theres any difference :( Even though ive lost hope on finding the source:( ...

Dudemaaanownsanrx7 07-01-10 09:45 AM

If you narrowed it down to ignition, the most likely causes are plugs, wires, and coils. There is a test proceedure in the fsm for checking the coils, and for that matter the wires too. But it sounds like yours need replaced anyway.

510_rx7 08-19-10 02:54 AM

hey i was wondering did you ever figure out the problem b/c im having the same situation with my second turbo. Everytime it pass 5000prm it would feel like its hesitating to go up to 8000rpm. Any help would be great, thanks in advance

JDM-AREX7 08-26-10 09:49 AM

Yes it was the ignition wires! went for 10mm re amemiya power wires... Problem fixed :)
